Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

Alyssa

It's alright, things would get better.

Damien would come back to his right senses, after all he loves me—

My trembling hand freezes halfway as I reach for the knife on the dining table. Tears droplets splatter on the marble table, and the sight of my signature on the divorce papers brings me back to reality. We're divorced; tomorrow he'll reject me in front of the whole pack.

Without being able to pretend anymore, I break down into sobs. My fingers curl on the edge of the table while I look at the floor with uncontrollable tears streaming down my face. He's really serious with this Divorce agreement.

My relationship with Damien hasn't been a bed of roses. When we got married he was distant and cold towards me, but after a while, he started warming up and becoming softer. I bore his pain as mine and tried everything possible to make him happy. We were totally fine until last night when Elowen returned and he pushed me away like what we have been through meant nothing to him.

My chest aches as I think of it. I just can't accept that he doesn't want me anymore. But the untouched food on the table and the chocolate cake which "Happy Third Anniversary" is written on says it all. It took me several hours to bake this cake in hopes that it brings a smile to Damien's face. But I totally got the opposite of what I hoped for.

"Have you finished sulking and beating yourself up?"

Bella, my maid's voice, draws my attention to the door. She stands at the door with an angry expression, gesturing that unlike me she had work to do, which was cleaning up

the mess on the table.

I wipe my face and take a step back. "Yes, go ahead," I reply to her. Bella rolls her eyes, hip cocked in disapproval as she walks over and eyes the table.

"Such a mess," she mutters while shaking her head.

Despite being the Luna, I'm not liked in the pack house. It's because I'm an orphan who did not shift; this makes everyone, even the maids, look down on me. Well, even an Omega has a wolf, so this alone makes me appear way beneath in rank. So the people don't approve of me as their Queen. Someone without a wolf can't lead a pack, that's what I have always been told.

I have learned to live with it, because forcing people to like me based on my position goes against my principles, so I try to make up for my weakness by putting in my best efforts. Though Damien has always punished those who defied my authority when we were still lovebirds. He always took my side in every situation and was very protective of me.

I wonder if he believes like other pack members that Elowen would be a better Luna than I ever was, because she has a wolf. And she comes from a family of Alphas with very strong wolves, so it's totally okay for him to choose her over me.

Rrrrrrrip! Pooooop!

My body jolts at the sudden sound of something being torn off, and I notice Bella ruthlessly tearing off fairy lights and balloons from the table and walls. With each delicate

adornment torn, I feel a prick in my chest. Emma and Sydney had helped me with the decorations yesterday, and we felt so proud of what we had done after finishing.

Bella doesn't hold back on the food either, and I flinch at the way she dumps the cake into the trashcan.

I feel dizzy from these overwhelming emotions. I need a shower. I walk out of the dining hall, and my legs and chest feel very heavy for a lot of reasons.

Come to think of it, I have been feeling quite sick since this morning. I feel nauseous, my throat itches, and I have been getting easily tired lately. Well, maybe it's because

of the rejection from Damien.

Not paying attention to my surroundings, my hand moves subconsciously to open the bedroom door. And the moment the bedroom door swings open, a pleasant musky smell scents my nose, followed by another scent that makes my nose crinkle.

I freeze when I see Damien sitting on the bed with Elowen on his lap.

With blonde hair that brushes her shoulders in curls and a floral print mini skirt riding up her slender fair thighs, she looks exactly like every man's, especially my man's wet dreams. Compared to her, I look basic in my plain pink dress and black curly hair. They seem to be having a moment as her arms are wrapped round his neck, while his are on her slim curvy waist.

Damien notices my presence. "Lyssa," he calls out my name while letting go of Elowen's waist. Elowen gets up and stands beside him while fixing her skirt.

"Oh my goodness, Lyssa. I-I didn't know you were at the door," her pale skin turns red as

if she's embarrassed.

Even as I don't have a wolf, I can still feel the sting of their intimacy. My heart pounds painfully in my chest.

"Lyssa, why are you here?" Damien asks, staring at me with his cold hazel eyes. I can't tell what he's thinking.
