The doors opened and I stepped in.
"Oh my son, what brought you so late? We spent a lot of time in court; you should be having your rest."
I came closer enough for the light to hit my face, and her smile slowly faded.
I stared down at her with a quiet sheen to my crimson eyes, and I did nothing to hide my bloodlust as it went on a full swing, engulfing the entire room.
Her handmaids dropped to their knees, finding it difficult to breathe.
Mother slammed her hand on the table and shot to her feet. "What is this? Stop this absurdity immediately!"
I did no such thing, rounding the table while adjusting my sleeves. "I'll ask but once..."
"Drevon?" She said my name as if it didn't belong to me, and whoever stood in front of her was not her son.
"You're the woman who birthed me. That's the only reason you're still standing with your heart beating."
