Chapter 217 - Chapter 217: Zi Yan, She's Capable Again

With the fall of the North Dragon King at Xiao Yan's hands, the fierce and chaotic war finally came to an end. Most of the elites of the three dragon islands had been consumed by the Dragon Transformation Demon Array, leaving no resistance behind. Especially after Zhumu and Lieshan stood out and testified to the North Dragon King's treacherous actions, the remaining forces lowered their weapons and submitted to Zi Yan's command.

After centuries of internal strife, the Ancient Void Dragon Clan was once again unified—this time by the thunderous force of Xiao Yan. Under the guidance of many powerful individuals, the four dragon islands were reassembled into a single entity. From that moment on, there was no longer a fragmented dragon clan, only one united Ancient Void Dragon Clan under Zi Yan's leadership.

The only imperfection in this picture was Zi Yan's strength. At the moment, she was still only at the Dou Zong level—nowhere near enough to command respect through power alone. Even Xiao Yan was powerless to help her jump from Dou Zong to Dou Sheng in a short time. However, everyone across the islands knew one thing very clearly—the current Dragon Emperor had a terrifyingly strong husband. More importantly, the rumors said she had… forcibly taken that husband for herself.

When he heard this tale, Xiao Yan could only respond with silence and a twitching eyebrow. He knew that it was the elders of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan who had deliberately spread this story to enhance Zi Yan's prestige. Xiao Yan had no objection to them borrowing his reputation—but why did they have to include the part about her forcing herself on him? Sure, Zi Yan's status was elevated… but what about his own?

To make matters worse, those same elders even wanted to record the incident into the clan's historical archives. For a moment, Xiao Yan genuinely considered silencing them all forever.

Fortunately, the higher-ups of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan treated Xiao Yan with extreme respect. If their earlier reverence had been due to his connection to Zi Yan, now it came from genuine awe. After all, it was Xiao Yan who had single-handedly saved the clan from destruction. The re-unification of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan couldn't have happened without him.

Even though he was entirely human, Xiao Yan was now treated as one of their own.

That said, Xiao Yan didn't concern himself with such things. He'd suffered severe injuries during the recent battle and had secluded himself inside the Ancient Void Dragon Clan's treasure vault, searching for herbs to concoct recovery pills.

While rummaging through the vault, he discovered a peculiar ancient book. It was filled with secrets even he didn't know—said to be penned by the Old Dragon Emperor himself. Given the longevity of the Ancient Void Dragons, that emperor was likely an ancient monster who had lived far longer than Xiao Yan's previous lifetime. Naturally, he had seen and known far more.

Within the text, Xiao Yan came across something called the Dragon-Phoenix Origin Fruit, a rare treasure said to be thousands of times stronger than the Dragon Saliva Flame Spirit Grass he had previously obtained. This fruit only formed in places where an Ancient Void Dragon and a Primordial Sky Phoenix had perished together. Its energy was extraordinarily unique—if absorbed by someone with dragon or phoenix bloodlines, it could lead to a mythical evolution into a Dragon-Phoenix.

If Zi Yan could obtain this fruit and refine it successfully, she would no longer need Xiao Yan's protection. Her own strength alone would be enough to command the respect of the entire dragon clan. As it happened, Xiao Yan knew exactly where to find one.

In his previous life, he had once heard of such a fruit while exploring a Dou Sheng ruin. The fruit had eventually fallen into the hands of the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan. Unfortunately for them, they didn't know how to absorb or refine it properly, and much of the energy had been wasted. Had they succeeded, it would've been much harder for Xiao Yan to topple them in his previous life.

Although that ruin was surrounded by spatial barriers that wouldn't open for another decade, Xiao Yan's current strength had long surpassed the creator of those barriers. Tearing them open was child's play. So, he simply paid a visit, retrieved the fruit… and while he was at it, collected every herb, Dou Technique, puppet, and even the Dou Sheng skeleton from inside. Afterward, he casually repaired the space rift to leave no trace.

Given Zi Yan's current strength, refining the Dragon-Phoenix Origin Fruit was still a risky process. But with Xiao Yan's help, the risk was neutralized. As she absorbed the fruit's power, her cultivation rapidly rose. Combined with the inheritance of past Dragon Emperors, by the time Xiao Yan emerged from seclusion, Zi Yan had successfully broken through to the Dou Sheng level.

With strength came confidence, and naturally, Zi Yan challenged Xiao Yan again.

To put it simply—the skies cleared, the rain stopped, and Zi Yan thought she was capable again.

So… Xiao Yan taught her a lesson so thoroughly she ended up crying, begging him to stop.

But what no one knew was that Xiao Yan still had another Dragon-Phoenix Origin Fruit.

After the fruit was picked, the small tree that bore it had withered rapidly. Out of curiosity, Xiao Yan tried restoring it with the Life Spirit Flame, hoping to test its regenerative properties—and to his surprise, it worked! That flame, known for accelerating herb growth, rejuvenated the tree enough to produce one more fruit.

However, once that second fruit matured, the little tree turned completely to ash. That quashed Xiao Yan's fleeting dream of mass-producing these legendary fruits. Still, obtaining a second one was already a miracle. If such a treasure could be grown at will, it would've been far too heaven-defying.

After helping Zi Yan digest the fruit's power, Xiao Yan turned to resolve his own lingering issues. Though he had devoured the North Dragon King and the rest of the three-island coalition, he hadn't yet refined them. The sheer volume was too much. Even the Black Dragon Spirit Devouring Hand couldn't fully absorb it all—he would have to refine it manually.

Moreover, this energy contained their residual hatred and resentment. Although Xiao Yan could use the Ninefold Spirit Refinement Art to purify them, the process would take a long time. So this time, he planned to use external help—the Void Thunder Pool near the Ancient Void Dragon Island.

This thunder pool was a place where lightning gathered—a deadly area for most, but for Xiao Yan, it was an ideal treasure trove. Lightning suppressed vengeful spirits and evil intent, and his Black Dragon Spirit Devouring Hand could absorb that lightning to strengthen himself. Not to mention, the lightning also had powerful tempering effects on the body.

To others, the Void Thunder Pool was a land of death.

But to Xiao Yan, it was a sacred place of rebirth.
