"Damn it... who the hell is this guy? How can he be this strong?"
Lying amidst shattered stones, Huang Tian's eyes were filled with terror. Before coming here, he had known that Xiao Yan had defeated the Northern Dragon King, but he hadn't taken it seriously. After all, his own strength far surpassed that of the three Dragon Kings. It was only after clashing with Xiao Yan that he realized just how wildly inaccurate his information was.
To defeat the Sacred Image of the Demon Phoenix and the entire Heavenly Phoenix Ancient Formation without even using a single Dou Technique—this level of power was something only a Seven-Star Dou Saint or higher could achieve. But why had the intelligence reported that Xiao Yan had been seriously injured after fighting the Northern Dragon King? Had he been hiding his strength all along, just to lure Huang Tian out?
He struggled to stand, but Xiao Yan's foot pressed lightly down on his head, forcing him back into the rubble. Looking down at Huang Tian with a calm expression, Xiao Yan said flatly, "Did I say you could get up?"
"You... what are you trying to do?" Trembling under Xiao Yan's foot, true fear finally showed in Huang Tian's eyes. "I'm the clan leader of the Heavenly Demon Phoenix. If you kill me, the Heavenly Demon Phoenix Clan will never let you go!"
"Relax. I'm not going to kill you. But I will make you wish you were dead." Xiao Yan's lips curved into a faint smile. Then, with a casual palm strike to Huang Tian's chest, a terrifying force shattered every meridian in his body, completely crippling his Dou Qi cultivation. Xiao Yan looked down at him and added, "Oh, and by the way, when I said I was going to wipe out the Heavenly Demon Phoenix Clan earlier, I wasn't joking."
As he spoke, Xiao Yan waved his hand, and a vast spatial force swept out, imprisoning all the other Heavenly Demon Phoenix clan members in a dimension he created himself. Since merging the Dragon Phoenix bloodline, he had gained the same spatial control that the Ancient Void Dragon Clan possessed. Coupled with his vast experience from his past life, the space Xiao Yan had now created was so solid that even a Nine-Star Dou Saint would struggle to tear it open.
The Heavenly Demon Phoenix was a treasure trove. Killing them outright would be wasteful. Their Magic Cores went without saying, but their skin, feathers, and claws could all be used to make weapons and armor. Their wings were top-tier materials for crafting flying Dou Techniques. And as Dou Saint-level beings, the marrow in their bones was an exceptional tonic for those like Xiao Yixian who hadn't reached the Dou Saint rank yet.
Moreover, the blood essence of the Heavenly Demon Phoenix possessed unique properties that could strengthen the physical body. Most importantly, Xiao Yan's Nine Nether Flame needed this kind of avian beast essence to evolve further.
The current Nine Nether Flame ranked around fifteenth among the Heavenly Flames in terms of power—decent enough before, but now falling short of Xiao Yan's increasing strength. He needed to further evolve it to keep up with his combat needs.
So, the very night he captured Huang Tian and the others, Xiao Yan raided the Heavenly Demon Phoenix's main stronghold and packed up the entire clan into his own space. Though there were several Dou Saints in their ranks, they were nothing compared to Xiao Yan. He subdued them all in just a few breaths.
As for the clan's ancestral grounds, of course Xiao Yan didn't overlook it. The place contained a massive reservoir of stored blood essence from past generations—both in quality and quantity far superior to anything he'd previously absorbed. With this blood essence, his Nine Nether Flame evolved into the Nine Nether Underworld Flame and even began to show signs of mutating toward the legendary Undying Flame.
However, to complete the evolution, Xiao Yan still needed purer and more potent essence. Unfortunately, he had no access to stronger blood sources. While the essence of the Netherworld Demon Sparrow inside him might help, the Nine Nether Underworld Flame seemed incapable of absorbing it. So Xiao Yan could only use quantity to make up for quality. With enough Heavenly Demon Phoenix blood, the evolution would continue.
Naturally, he didn't plan to drain the clan dry all at once. But neither would he go easy on them. He had promised they would suffer fates worse than death—and simply caging them was too merciful. So, he devised a unique method to endlessly extract their essence and materials while subjecting them to excruciating torment.
The inspiration came from when he rebuilt Yao Lao's body. Yao Lao's original corpse was long gone, so Xiao Yan had used the bones of Venerable Tian Huo to reconstruct him. Surprisingly, after Yao Lao was revived, not only did he regain his original appearance, but also retained a faint trace of the Yao Clan's bloodline.
This sparked a new idea in Xiao Yan's mind: if he could extract everything from a Heavenly Demon Phoenix, then revive it—would new blood essence form again? He tested this theory by killing and reviving the three Phoenix Sisters… and it worked.
Thus began the tragedy of the Heavenly Demon Phoenix Clan. The dimension imprisoning them was named by Xiao Yan as the "Heavenly Demon Phoenix Slaughterhouse." Every few days, he'd pull some of them out, butcher them, then revive them—and repeat. For bone reconstruction, he reused their original skeletons. For blood essence replenishment, he used the blood of ordinary seventh- and eighth-rank magic beasts.
The only real limitation was the Bone Fusion Blood Pill. It wasn't difficult to refine, but its ingredients were extremely rare. Even with his vast collection, Xiao Yan could only produce a dozen or so batches. By normal means, his plan of endlessly slaughtering the Heavenly Demon Phoenix would soon fail.
However, the recently refined Life Spirit Flame solved this problem perfectly. Its unique ability to rapidly grow medicinal plants meant that Xiao Yan only needed the seeds of the ingredients, and he could generate an endless supply of materials for the Bone Fusion Blood Pill. And so, the slaughterhouse began its grim routine.
The Heavenly Demon Phoenixes became like livestock, continuously providing Xiao Yan with blood essence. He wasn't gentle either—his style was to inflict the most pain possible. When tearing off their wings or extracting bone marrow, he deliberately kept them conscious, ensuring they experienced the full scope of agony.
Even death was no escape. If they somehow managed to kill themselves, Xiao Yan could simply revive them. It was the truest form of torment—unable to live, unable to die. As for the wings and bones he didn't need immediately, Xiao Yan stockpiled them. Once he returned to Starfall Pavilion and the Xiao Family, he intended to upgrade everyone's gear to the highest level using these spoils of war.
