Within the Hun Clan, deep inside the hidden sanctuary where Hun Tiandi secluded himself, the clan leader sat cross-legged atop a blood-colored lotus. He silently absorbed the essence of the blood sea below. A thousand years ago, during the annihilation of the Xiao Clan, Hun Tiandi had been grievously wounded in battle by Xiao Xuan's desperate counterattack. Since then, he had remained in seclusion here, quietly recovering his strength until he returned to his peak.
However, just as he reached a critical juncture in his cultivation, a chaotic aura suddenly surged toward his location. Hun Tiandi had only just exited his meditative state when a figure wreathed in black flames burst in and roared, "Hun Tiandi! Get out here!"
"Void Devouring Flame? What are you doing here?" Hun Tiandi's expression darkened. Being forcibly disturbed at such a crucial moment could have dire consequences—an internal backlash of Dou Qi wasn't out of the question. But soon, he noticed the figure's weakened state and frowned. "What happened to you? Why are you so badly injured?"
"What happened to me? Heh… Hun Tiandi, you had Hun Xuzi deliver your orders for me to destroy the Yan Clan, and I obeyed. I even endured Yan Jin's self-detonation. But you—how generous of you—to have Hun Xuzi stab me in the back! If I hadn't held a final trump card, I would have been refined alive! What a brilliant scheme you people came up with!"
The Void Devouring Flame was clearly furious. Without waiting for Hun Tiandi's response, he unleashed a tirade.
Hearing the accusation, Hun Tiandi was briefly taken aback. It took him a moment to piece together the implications of what he'd just heard. He frowned. "You're saying I sent Hun Xuzi to tell you to attack the Yan Clan? And that he turned on you? Ridiculous! When did I ever give such orders?"
"Hah, so my experiences were all hallucinations? Plenty of people in the clan can vouch that Hun Xuzi passed on your commands. Still want to deny it?" The Void Devouring Flame sneered and stared coldly at Hun Tiandi. "If you don't give me a proper explanation today, I won't let this go."
Hun Tiandi's face turned grim. If what the Void Devouring Flame said was true, then Hun Xuzi was clearly a problem. He immediately summoned Hun Dai'er and asked, "Did Hun Xuzi claim I sent him to order the assault on the Yan Clan?"
"It's true," Hun Dai'er replied, casting a glance at the clearly depleted Void Devouring Flame.
"Why didn't you verify such a critical matter with me?" Hun Tiandi's voice finally rose with fury, his composure cracking.
"Father, you told me not to disturb you under any circumstances while you were in seclusion. That's why I didn't report it directly. But to be safe, I did send you a soul transmission using a Soul Jade. Didn't you receive it?" Hun Dai'er looked surprised.
Hun Tiandi's eyelid twitched. He had indeed said that no one should disturb him during his cultivation. He also remembered receiving a soul message, but since Hun Dai'er had regularly reported on clan matters, he had dismissed it without much thought. He hadn't expected something this serious to have occurred.
"So this wasn't your doing?" The Void Devouring Flame narrowed his eyes as he looked at the dark-faced Hun Tiandi.
"It wasn't," Hun Tiandi said through gritted teeth.
"Now that I think about it… when I came out of seclusion earlier, I heard reports that the Hall of Soulss had been destroyed and the soul origin stones ransacked. At first, I thought the other clans were responsible. But when I clashed with Hun Xuzi, I sensed faint traces of Emperor Rank soul power. It's possible he was behind that too." The Void Devouring Flame added with a scowl.
"No wonder all our Central Plains branches were wiped out in a single day. With his strength and knowledge of the Hall of Souls's layout, it wouldn't be difficult," Hun Dai'er muttered in realization.
"Damn it! I never imagined Hun Xuzi harbored such treacherous ambitions!" Hun Tiandi clenched his fists. He had plotted for a thousand years, and just as he approached the moment of action, Hun Xuzi had ruined everything.
Moreover, some members of the Yan Clan had escaped, exposing the Hun Clan's hand. Now, the difficulty of eliminating the remaining ancient clans had increased tenfold. How could he not be furious, having placed the path to Dou Di as his ultimate goal?

But as expected of a peak Dou Sheng, Hun Tiandi reacted in the blink of an eye, forming a Dou Qi membrane over his heart. The sword was halted a hair's breadth from piercing all the way through.
Before he could retaliate, Hun Tiandi's face changed again. A violent surge of lightning had breached his defenses and invaded his body. He rapidly gathered his Dou Qi to contain the rampaging force, but pain wracked his chest. He coughed up a mouthful of blood and staggered back more than ten steps before managing to stabilize himself.
"As expected of one of the continent's strongest. You even managed to block my assassination attempt. What a pity." "Void Devouring Flame" shook his head, visibly regretful, though not particularly surprised. Against an enemy of Hun Tiandi's caliber, it would have been more surprising if the plan had succeeded easily.
