After completing the refinement of the Demon Wrath Nine Absolutes, Xiao Yan took some time to practice alchemy. In the Great Thousand World, what they once called alchemists in the Dou Qi Continent were now known as Spiritual Pill Masters. While the systems differed in certain areas, their principles ultimately aligned. After investing some effort, Xiao Yan gradually familiarized himself with the alchemical methods of the Great Thousand World.
By now, he could be considered a true Spiritual Pill Master. With his skills, even refining Heaven-tier spiritual pills was not a problem. However, during the refinement process, he realized a long-forgotten issue—his cauldron. The one he used in the Dou Qi Continent had been extraordinary there, but it failed to significantly increase his success rate in this world. Otherwise, he might already be attempting to refine Grandmaster-grade pills.
'Sigh, looks like there's one more thing to worry about,' Xiao Yan muttered internally as he stuffed the freshly refined pills into jade bottles and exited the Heavenly Tomb.
He first checked on Qing Tan. She was still in seclusion, her aura lingering at the Third Grade Sovereign level. It seemed one month of cultivation wasn't enough for her to break through.
Still, that was normal. Not everyone had access to a unique place like the Heavenly Tomb. Within the Sovereign Realm, going years without advancing even a single grade was common. Qing Tan had only recently broken through to Third Grade. If she could leap to Fourth Grade within a month, that would be nothing short of terrifying.
Xiao Yan also noticed a faint ice-blue figure forming behind her—a clear sign of her Sovereign Celestial Body. While she hadn't broken through, successfully cultivating a Celestial Body meant her battle strength had taken another leap.
After quietly informing Qing Tan that he would be heading out on a mission, Xiao Yan turned into a streak of light and sped toward a towering mountain. After leaving seclusion, he had contacted Qin Wan'er to let her know he was ready. She had provided a rendezvous point, and he was now headed there to regroup.
When he landed at the location, he found that aside from Qin Wan'er, three other figures were present. All of them were Seventh Grade Sovereigns. It was easy to deduce these were the other members assigned to the mission. Qin Wan'er's strength had also improved—her aura was now fully stabilized at the Eighth Grade Sovereign level. Just from surface-level power alone, this group could easily rival a Ninth Grade Sovereign.
The others looked at Xiao Yan with mild surprise. Qin Wan'er had briefed them beforehand, so they already knew he was a prodigy who had ascended from a lower plane—and that his strength rivaled Qin Wan'er's.
Initially, they had doubted it. How could someone new to the Great Thousand World stand equal to Qin Wan'er? But now, feeling Xiao Yan's aura, which was not far off from Qin Wan'er's before her breakthrough, they began to believe it.
'His strength actually improved again…' Qin Wan'er was shocked. The last time they met, Xiao Yan had only been at peak Fifth Grade Sovereign. Now, in less than three months, he was nearly on par with her. Though the Nine Nether Secret Realm offered tremendous growth, his rapid improvement clearly pointed to an absurd level of talent.
"Captain Wan'er, may I ask what kind of mission this is?" Xiao Yan's gaze swept across the other three before settling on Qin Wan'er. 'With a team led by an Eighth Grade Sovereign and backed by three Seventh Grades, we could dominate any region unless we're heading to a Super Continent. Is this mission really that difficult?'
"This mission is indeed tricky," Qin Wan'er replied, clearly sensing his doubts. "But the good news is, we're only scouting. If anything feels wrong, we can retreat immediately."
"Our task is to investigate the Dragon God Ruins."
"The Dragon God Ruins? There's a place like that in the Nine Nether Continent?" Xiao Yan asked with growing curiosity. Just by the name alone, it was obviously related to the Dragon Clan. But the Nine Nether Sparrows had nothing to do with dragons. Why would such a site exist here?
"The ruins aren't in the Nine Nether Continent," one of the other team members explained. "They're located in a mountain range on the Divine Beast Continent. It's said that a top-tier expert from the Dragon Clan once fell there. His lifetime's essence blood and inheritance were hidden within that mountain range."
"But no one's ever located the ruins, and over time, people started to question whether they even exist."
He paused, then continued, "However, a few months ago, someone brought out a bone fragment from that region. Dragon Clan experts confirmed it was the bone of a true dragon. Recently, the spiritual energy fluctuations around that area have also changed dramatically. Many believe this is a sign that the ruins are finally emerging—thus, this mission was issued."
"That's right," Qin Wan'er nodded. "According to the intel I received, the fallen Dragon Clan expert was none other than the Dragon Emperor, a figure who once shook the Great Thousand World."
"The Dragon Emperor was a peak-level Heavenly Sovereign. Even back then, few on the Divine Beast Continent could rival him. If someone could inherit his legacy, that would truly be a heaven-defying leap forward."
"If the Dragon God Ruins are that important, then why aren't more people being sent? And if it really holds a legacy, can our small group even retrieve it? Doesn't the Nine Nether Sparrow Clan have stronger experts?" Xiao Yan frowned.
This involved a treasure left by a Heavenly Sovereign. There was no way the Nine Nether Sparrows would send only a few young elites to explore it. At the very least, there should be Earth Sovereigns overseeing the operation. Without that, even if they got lucky and found the treasure, they might not survive long enough to escape with it.
'Also… why does the name "Dragon Emperor" irritate me so much?'
"The Dragon God Ruins are rather strange," Qin Wan'er replied patiently. "It's said the area is sealed by a special barrier that only allows those below the Earth Sovereign level to enter."
"And we're not the only team on this mission. There are seven squads in total. We're just one of them."
"The strongest squad is being led personally by Mu Jiujie."
