The Black Dragon Spirit—among the Four Demonic Spirits—was the most destructive of them all. Precisely because of that, the conditions for using it were extremely harsh. Previously, Xiao Yan had never been able to fully unleash its power, but only after advancing to the Earth Sovereign level did he discover he could barely tap into its strength.
Although he hadn't yet faced any serious battles until now, Xiao Yan never slackened in his grasp of the Four Demonic Spirits. Even during seclusion, he set aside time to hone their power. The strength it revealed left him shocked—this was the first time he'd officially employed it in battle, yet he was confident that its might was enough to break through the defense in front of him.
Faced with Xiao Yan's attack, Qing Yanjing's expression grew solemn. She could truly sense the intense threat. At once, she infused her spiritual energy into the Endless Radiant Body, reinforcing the luminous barrier before her. The next instant, the Black Dragon Spirit crashed down, unleashing a world-shaking explosion.
Although the Endless Radiant Body was hailed as the strongest defensive Sovereign Body in the Great Thousand World, Qing Yanjing's cultivation wasn't enough to fully wield its power. Coupled with the fact that she was facing the most aggressive of the Four Demonic Spirits, the luminous barrier it had formed couldn't fully withstand the impact.
Though the barrier was shattered, the remaining power of the Black Dragon Spirit also dissipated. Even so, what lingered was enough to send the Endless Radiant Body staggering back several thousand meters before it barely regained its footing. But just as it stabilized, Qing Yanjing felt something was wrong—her Sovereign Body suddenly sank slightly, its movements becoming sluggish.
Startled, she looked down to find that the ground beneath the Endless Radiant Body had turned into a black swamp. It was similar to the Blackwater Prison Spirit Array she had previously used against Xiao Yan, but this effect was clearly several times—perhaps ten times—stronger. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to trap even the Endless Radiant Body.
This black swamp was activated by the Ghostfiend Black Tortoise, another of the Four Demonic Spirits. Like the Endless Radiant Body, it excelled in defense, but unlike it, it could also turn its body into a mire that shackled enemies. Back on the Dou Qi Continent, Xiao Yan had once used it to restrain dozens of enemies with far superior strength. Now that his cultivation had increased, the Ghostfiend Black Tortoise's power had grown even stronger.
As Qing Yanjing's movement was restrained by the Ghostfiend Black Tortoise, Xiao Yan clenched his hand, summoning the shadow of the Dark Abyss Evil Tiger. The surrounding spiritual energy immediately began to flow erratically.
Qing Yanjing was about to deploy a technique to help her Sovereign Body escape the swamp, but the ensuing spiritual energy turbulence disrupted her preparations, causing her buildup to collapse, which in turn inflicted backlash. She let out a muffled groan in pain.
Before she could recover, the surrounding air turned scorching. A bird-like creature, engulfed in black flames, spread its wings and slammed toward the Endless Radiant Body—it was the fourth of the Four Demonic Spirits, the Netherfire Demon Sparrow.
Seeing the sparrow approach, Qing Yanjing's pupils shrank. She didn't even care that using spiritual energy amid this turbulence would harm her. She forcibly summoned her energy, causing the Endless Radiant Body to emit radiant light, forming a shield of holy brilliance to block the oncoming sparrow.
When the Netherfire Demon Sparrow crashed into the shield, its body shattered immediately. While Qing Yanjing felt a flicker of surprise at this, she quickly noticed something alarming—the flames from the shattered sparrow clung to the shield like maggots on bone. These black flames carried a corrosive force that swiftly weakened the shield's glow.
Even so, the defense of the Endless Radiant Body had not been completely broken. Seeing this, Qing Yanjing exhaled a sigh of relief. Truthfully, even if the shield were destroyed, it wouldn't be fatal. As long as her Sovereign Body remained, she could always manifest another layer of defense. In essence, so long as she didn't attack, she could maintain an unbreakable defense with the Endless Radiant Body alone.
Although she was momentarily disheveled from Xiao Yan's relentless assault, once she recovered, she could unleash the Endless Radiant Body's offensive divine techniques. At that point, regaining the upper hand wouldn't be difficult. While Xiao Yan's attacks were powerful, she was certain he couldn't unleash them repeatedly without limit.
"No wonder it's considered the most formidable defensive Sovereign Body in the Great Thousand World. That defense really is ironclad..." Xiao Yan murmured softly as he watched the fading flames of the Netherfire Demon Sparrow. This was his first time utilizing the complete power of the Four Demonic Spirits. Against an ordinary opponent, even those with a top-ten Sovereign Body—so long as it wasn't one of the five Primordial Bodies—they'd have long since fallen. Yet the Endless Radiant Body endured.
Though he still had a divine art like the Dragon Roar Demon Subjugation Art left uncast, Xiao Yan didn't feel confident it could shatter the Endless Radiant Body head-on. After a brief thought, he swiftly formed a series of hand seals. The four enormous beast shadows appeared once again and streaked toward Qing Yanjing from all directions.
"That move again?" Qing Yanjing instantly recognized the Four Demonic Spirits that had caused her so much trouble earlier. But this time, she was ready. Light surged once more, forming a massive wall in the skies to block all four at once.
Yet something felt off—this time, the Four Demonic Spirits didn't immediately attack. Instead, they landed in the four directions around her. A sense of unease welled up within her. She instinctively boosted her defenses again.
Suddenly, as Xiao Yan's hand seals changed, the Four Demonic Spirits simultaneously opened their mouths, and four differently colored chains shot out, streaking through the air. Before Qing Yanjing could react, the chains wrapped tightly around the limbs of the Endless Radiant Body.
