Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The start of the quest

The quest has now started and we will be staying at this mountain for three days.

I wonder how strong the monsters are gonna be. Will I be really surviving this quest? Not that I'm scared or anything. I'm just really wondering.

"What are you spacing out for?" Jade said.

"Oh, nothing."

"No matter what happens, just stay by my side, okay? I'll protect you." Jade said with a concerned look on his face.

I honestly can't tell what his intentions are but as long as he protects me, I'll be staying at his side.

"Okay!"

"Let's look for a place to stay during the night now. This place is pretty dangerous during the night so we better get moving already while it's still daytime."

"Uh, yeah!"

Jade and I started to move around to look for a place to stay throughout the whole quest.

While we were walking, a question came to my mind.

Why are we doing such a dangerous quest just to move onto the next planet? Maybe I should ask Jade about it.

"Hey, Jade."

"Yeah?"

"If it's okay with you, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure. What is it?"

"What exactly is a 'worshipper? Why are we doing all of this as a 'worshipper'? "I asked.

"As you already know, we are the 'worshippers' and the reason why we have to move to the next planet is for us to be closer to God. There are 50 planets in total and we are currently on the 8th planet. According to them, the closer you are to God, the easier it is for them to grant us our wishes, and the closest planet to God is the 50th planet." He answered.

"Is there anything else that you wanted to ask?" He added.

"No. You already answered everything."

He just laughed.

"Wait. Actually, I still have one more question left. How are you going to defeat the monsters if you're unarmed? You don't even have at least one tiny knife with you. How are you going to protect me?"

"Hahahahahaha"

He just laughed instead of answering my question.

"So you're not actually going to protect me? Well then, I'm out."

I was about to leave when he grabbed my hand.

"Wait, wait! Just hear me out, okay?"

I turned to him.

"You're not planning on making me a sacrifice, aren't you?"

"No, of course not. "

"So? Where's your weapon?"

"Hahahaha"

He just laughed again.

"Don't tell me you've also forgotten it." he said.

"We have our own ability individually."

"Like some sort of super power?" I asked.

"Yeah. Something like that. Mine is being able to control any types of metal."

"No wonder you didn't bring any weapons. You are confident that you could complete this quest with your ability alone, aren't you?"

He smiled.

"Yeah" he said as he laughed.

I sigh.

"People like you are the type to die early."

"I don't think so."

The two of us continued to look for a place to stay.

As we walked, I spotted a cave.

Maybe that's the place.

I immediately notified Jade about it.

"Hey, Jake. Is that place good?" I said while pointing my left hand at the cave.

"Wait. Let me check first."

Jade went inside the cave and after a few minutes, he returned with a thumbs up and a big smile on his face.

"It's perfect." he said.

"Anyway, let's grab some sticks to create a bonfire for later."

I just nodded.

While we were searching for sticks under the trees near the cave, another question came to my mind.

"Hey, Jade. Do you know the guy that wears a black cloak and carries a sword with him?"I asked.

"You mean Haku? Yeah. We've talked before. Why did you ask?" He said.

"Nothing. He just looks so strong. That's all."

"I see where that is coming from. He is indeed strong. But you know what? Despite his scary appearance, he's actually really kind."

Jade noticed that we have gathered enough (sanga) to create a bonfire and called me.

"This should be enough. Let's go now."

Jade and I started to walk towards the cave.

When we went inside, the place was really dark. It's hard to tell which way to go.

Before I could even take more steps, Jade grabbed my hand.

He really likes grabbing people, is he?

"If you go furthermore, there could be any traps in there. It's better if we set the bonfire first."

He's right. I didn't think about that.

"Yeah. You're right."

Jade started to arrange the sticks we got from earlier and grabbed a lighter from his pocket. He then lit the sticks making a bonfire out of it.

The cave that used to be so dark is now filled with lightness.

Jake and I sat down on the ground next to the bonfire.

Just when I'm trying to sleep, my stomach suddenly starts growling.

When Jake heard it, he laughed.

"Hahaha"

"Stop laughing. It's not even funny" I said as my face turns red from embarrassment.

"You stay here. I'll look for something to eat"

"Okay"

Jake stood up and started to walk outside the cave.

I'm all alone now in this cave. It's really quite. Maybe I should take a quick nap until Jake returns.

...

An hour(probably?) had passed since I fell asleep when I woke from a loud noise. It seems like someone is clashing outside the cave.

Should I take a look outside? But Jake told me to stay here...

Ugh! Whatever I'll just take a look outside. What could possibly go wrong?

I started to walk towards where the loud noise came from but before I could even take a step outside— a head full of blood and bruises suddenly came flying towards my direction. When I took a look at who could possibly have done that. There, I saw Haku surrounded by other corpses, standing before me.His sword was drawn and full of blood. He had a glaze of someone who is ready to kill anyone that comes close to him.

Suddenly, I remember the conversation I had with Jake earlier.

A kind person? Really, Jake? Nothing about him looks kind to me. I should probably go back inside now.

Just when I was about to walk back, Haku said something.

"Hey! You over there!"
