Chapter 56 - 056 Protect The Desperate Creatures!

As soon as those words left Russell's mouth, the entire camp fell into a strange silence.

Dr. Erik Selvig and the others all turned to look at Thor.

What is wrong with you these past two days? Why do you keep calling yourself "Thor" every time a stranger shows up?

Thor hadn't expected such a ridiculous turn of events and hurried to explain:

"I'm the real Thor! That guy is the fake!"

Jane couldn't help but twitch the corner of her mouth.

Didn't you just say yesterday that all those stories were just myths? Weren't you acting like you'd accepted it all as nonsense?

And now here you are—back at it again! Typical man...

Seeing that she clearly didn't believe him, Thor became a little desperate. He turned to Russell and asked:

"Since you claim to be Thor, then tell me—who is the All-Father, who is the Queen of Heaven, and who are the royal warriors of Asgard?"

Before Russell could respond, Darcy eagerly raised her hand:

"I know this one! Odin is the All-Father, Frigga is the Queen of Heaven, and the warriors of Asgard are Sif, Hogun, Fandral, and Volstagg!"

Erik shook his head with a sigh. Anyone who's read Norse mythology would know that. What was I expecting?

Myths are fake. There's no way this guy is Thor—he's clearly just delusional. Let's send him back tomorrow.

Jane was growing bored. This guy doesn't just seem delusional... he seems kind of dumb too.

Darcy smirked at Thor:

"Well? Was I right?"

Thor looked awkward. Before he could respond, the man in front of him—Russell—spoke:

"Since you're done asking questions, how about I ask a few now?"

Darcy was immediately intrigued.

Thor lifted his chin with confidence and gave Jane a quick look, like he was preparing to prove himself.

Russell asked, without hesitation:

"Do you know why Jotunheim is always winter? What celestial body keeps it cold?"

"What rune is engraved on Mjolnir that gives it its power to summon lightning?"

"What is the dwarven forge actually made of?"

"If they're so tall, why are they still called dwarves?"

"Aside from illusion magic, what other types of spells does Asgard use?"

"The World Tree is recorded in the history of every realm—so why can't it be seen in any of the Nine Realms?"

At first, Thor tried to think it through—digging into his memory.

But as the questions kept coming, his confident expression quickly turned to confusion… then to full-blown panic.

What are these questions? Why don't I know any of this?!

For a moment, he even began to question whether he was the fake.

Erik and the others had been curious about Russell's questions, but when they saw Thor's expression, they immediately realized it—

This delusional guy has no idea what he's talking about.

Thor's face turned red with embarrassment. He snapped defensively:

"You act like you know all the answers!"

The others turned to Russell.

He simply gave a mysterious smile—and then laughed.

"I do. But I'm not telling you."

Jane rolled her eyes. Erik was speechless.

Darcy was still swooning over the new handsome stranger.

Thor let out a forced laugh, looking at the others:

"See?! He's the fake one!"

"Yeah, yeah, sure. You're the real one," Jane replied with tired sarcasm.

She had no more patience for stargazing.

"It's late. Let's head back to town."

She glanced at Russell and added:

"If you don't mind, Mr. Thor, you can ride with us."

We've already got one mental case—what's one more? We can drop both of them off at the psych ward. Consider it a public service.

Without waiting for a reply, she turned and headed for the car.

Thor looked deflated, like his budding romance had died before it even began.

Humans… are complicated.

Russell patted him on the shoulder and said encouragingly:

"Don't be so down. Beautiful women love fools. Be a little dumber—she might like you more."

"Really? I didn't expect Midgardian women to choose partners that way," Thor replied with wide-eyed sincerity.

Darcy was stunned. For a second, she was thankful this guy hadn't fallen for her.

She immediately latched onto Russell's arm and dragged him toward the car with enthusiasm, even asking if he wanted to "go over some Norse mythology" with her that evening.

It didn't matter if he didn't know—she knew plenty.

Thor was left standing by the campfire, alone and depressed.

Three minutes ago, this was NOT how things were going.

He scowled at the "fake Thor" and quickly chased after them.

He didn't even get to talk Norse mythology with Jane—he definitely wasn't letting that guy do it either.

Russell, of course, didn't care.

The little wolf girl couldn't keep up with him physically—he didn't need to get tangled with ordinary human women.

The next morning.

Russell woke up feeling refreshed.

Across the room, Thor was sitting on a single armchair, staring at him with bloodshot eyes.

The guy had stayed up all night, keeping watch—terrified that Russell might sneak off and talk mythology with Daisy.

When everyone gathered for breakfast, Thor couldn't hold it in any longer:

"Brother… aren't you leaving yet?"

Russell calmly sipped his milk and replied:

"I told you—I'm here to save you. I won't leave until the mission is complete."

Thor muttered under his breath:

"Psychopath."

Then angrily tore through ten hot dogs like a man with a grudge.

Jane sat across the table in silence.

She didn't say a word—because in her mind, she was already planning to send both of them to the psychiatric ward in the nearest town hospital.

She had almost believed them last night.

At that moment, the door to the breakfast shop burst open.

Four men and women walked in, looking like cosplayers in leather armor and armed with medieval-style weapons. Their entrance was aggressive and attention-grabbing.

Dr. Erik Selvig and the others instinctively wanted to leave—but then they saw Thor suddenly leap up with excitement. He laughed and rushed to hug them.

As he did, a thought struck him, and he turned to Jane and said excitedly:

"These are the Four Warriors of Asgard!"

"Daisy, you may know their names, but now you're seeing the real thing!"

Erik and the others fell into awkward silence again.

Is this just a whole group of mental patients now?

Thor, oblivious to what they were thinking, turned to Sif and the others, wanting them to expose the fake Thor and prove he was the real one.

But before he could open his mouth, the man standing opposite him—Russell—spoke up first:

"Back to last night's question. Here's one final question—can the four of you defeat the Destroyer together?"

Erik and the others had no idea what "the Destroyer" was.

Jane frowned and asked sarcastically:

"Is that a popular thing in the mental illness community?"

Thor responded seriously:

"This isn't mental illness—it's Asgard's most powerful secret weapon. Ordinary mortals shouldn't know about it!"

Sif and the others instantly became alert and serious.

"Who are you?!" she demanded.

Russell simply pointed behind them and said:

"Why shouldn't we know? Isn't it right there?"

Everyone instinctively turned around to look.

Outside, the street appeared normal—just a few pedestrians and no sign of anything unusual.

Thor opened his mouth, ready to refute him, and Jane and Erik exchanged doubtful glances.

But then, a calm countdown echoed:

"3... 2... 1... 0."

BOOM!!!

In an instant, a brilliant rainbow-colored torrent crashed down from the sky, striking the earth with thunderous force. The shockwave shattered windows all along the street!

"It's the Bifrost!"

"Something's coming!"

"Be careful, Thor!"

"Mortals, retreat and take cover!" the Asgardian warriors shouted urgently.

Erik's eyes widened in shock.

Jane stared at the swirling light outside, her chest rising and falling rapidly in disbelief.

It had appeared.

The Bifrost.

This thing… was real!

And then, she snapped her head around to look at Russell, who was still calmly sipping milk.

"How… how did you predict the arrival of the Bifrost?!"

"You're not insane!"

Russell rolled his eyes, still drinking slowly. His calm demeanor stood in sharp contrast to the chaos around him.

At that moment, the Bifrost faded, revealing a massive humanoid metal creature.

It stood tall, glinting coldly with a metallic sheen. Its edges were sharp, its frame intimidating, emanating sheer mechanical power.

"The Destroyer!"

"It's really the Destroyer!" Fandral shouted in panic.

Thor turned around, completely stunned.

How did that imposter know this in advance?!

Just then, Sif shouted urgently:

"Thor, don't just stand there!"

"It's Loki—he's trying to kill you!"

Thor snapped out of his daze and was about to deny it, when the Destroyer's single eye began to glow.

"Get down!"

Volstagg roared, raising his shield in front of Thor.

At the same time, a high-energy beam erupted from the Destroyer's face, blasting forward with devastating force!

Volstagg and his shield were instantly thrown backward, smashing through a wall like a ragdoll.

Thankfully, his act of defense gave Sif time to pull Thor aside, avoiding the direct hit. The others also managed to dodge.

Thor scrambled across the cold ground, suddenly remembering:

Jane!

He looked back in a panic—only to see Jane and Erik had taken cover in another booth, both terrified and confused.

As for the fake Thor—Russell—he was still casually standing in his original spot, holding his milk.

Thor didn't waste time. He turned and shouted to the other three warriors:

"Take the fight outside!"

"Not here!"

Hogun clenched his jaw. They knew they couldn't defeat the Destroyer—it wasn't part of their mission.

But they had no choice.

With a roar, the three warriors charged outside with weapons in hand.

At the same time, gunfire erupted down the street!

Several black SUVs had blocked one end of the road. Over a dozen S.H.I.E.L.D. agents fired wildly at the towering metal monster.

Agent Phil Coulson had originally come to retrieve Dr. Erik's stolen computer—he hadn't expected this.

"Coulson, report! What the hell's going on?"

Nick Fury's voice crackled through the earpiece.

Coulson rubbed his temple and said grimly:

"Sir, you might want to start picking out my gravestone. Ask for a priest over 60—young people don't believe in anything anymore."

"Enough nonsense!"

"It's an alien robot," Coulson said, watching the chaos. "Alien robot vs. Viking warriors. No—alien robot massacring Viking warriors. The dwarf just got sent flying."

"Poor woman. Her chest got flattened."

"The guy with the sword looked cool—never mind, he just lost the sword."

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, Nick Fury took a deep breath and made a quick decision:

"Evacuate. I'm calling in air support!"

The lives of a hundred civilians weren't worth more than his best agent.

But just then, Coulson's stunned voice returned:

"Sir!"

"The alien robot stopped moving... That guy who looks like Thor is walking toward it—he's saying something about his brother giving up the throne..."

"...Wait. Is his dad gay or something?"

"OH!! He just got punched into the sky! He's dead! No—WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!"

"The robot's charging up—it's going to fire again! We can't escape!"

"WAAAH—"

The headset exploded in static.

Nick Fury's face turned pitch-black. He leaned back in his chair, grief and regret flooding his eyes.

But a few seconds later, he noticed something.

The line was still connected.

Then Coulson's voice came back—hoarse and trembling.

"Sir..."

"I think I just saw God..."

Thirty seconds earlier.

In the breakfast shop, Erik, Jane, and Daisy were no longer amazed by the Bifrost.

Now, they were terrified.

The battle outside was beyond human comprehension.

The Destroyer looked like it had stepped out of a sci-fi nightmare—and nothing could stop it.

Those "warriors" weren't even close to its level.

The Thor they thought was crazy had been sent flying by one punch. No one knew if he was alive or dead.

Now the monster was going to kill them all.

In despair, Jane suddenly remembered something.

If these lunatics had been telling the truth…

She turned quickly and saw the other Thor—Russell—calmly setting down his milk.

He smiled and said:

"Don't worry. I told you—I'll save you."

Before she could react, he vanished.

Jane instinctively turned toward the ruins outside.

There, in the debris and smoke, stood Russell—calmly facing the Destroyer.

His hand was raised.

The Four Warriors of Asgard, battered and bloody, looked up with wide eyes.

Even the injured Thor opened his eyes, sensing something familiar.

And then—

A silver war hammer soared through the sky, roaring like thunder, and landed squarely in Russell's hand!

BOOM!!!

A bolt of purple lightning crashed from the heavens!

Russell was bathed in pure thunder.

His armor appeared piece by piece.

Divine power weaved a flowing cloak behind him.

Arcs of lightning crackled across his body.

At that moment, the myth returned.

Thor has arrived.
