AYLA – POV
The chilled wind slammed into us, carrying a sound like cracking glass—or bone. I staggered under it. The ridge shook, embers dancing out of the fire's plunge into frenzy.
Kael's fingers tightened on mine. Heat pulsed where his grip pressed into my palm, a silent lifeline in a sea of chaos. I swallowed hard and forced myself to stay grounded.
Above us, the moon—our silent sentinel—fractured. A jagged line tore through silver light, jagged and raw. Stars vanished. Darkness spilled across the sky.
The Huntbound's Hesitation
At that moment, the Huntbound twin lowered his spear. His eyes glazed with something like fear. He whispered to his brother, voice lost to the crackling flames and roaring wind.
The crater of silence widened around us: campfires guttered, wolves fled into shadow. Magic like steel ribbons whipped through the air, twisting through the ash circle.
