# Philosopher class missile cruiser

## Hull

- color: completely matte black

- material: 64 mm titanium reinforced steel with honeycomb bulkheads

- block-coefficient: 0.44

## Dimensions

- length: 200 m

- beam: 40 m

- draft: 8 m

## Power plant (ANS-NLMR-512)

### Main Specifications

- Fuel cycle: Fast neutron reactor

- Thermal power: 1152 MW

- Electric power: 512 MW

- Fuel life: 30 years with fast breeding

- Fuel type: Plutonium with a Uranium breeding blanket

- Core Temperature: 800 K

### Core Design

- Hexagonal lattice core surrounded by a pure molten lead reflector jacket

- Lead reflector jacket maintained in a liquid state by fission heat

- 4 m diameter core with a 4 m height

- Distributed control rods for neutron flux regulation

- fission gasses are circulated around the molten lead reflector jacket to form an anticorrosive layer on its containment surfaces

### Coolant System

- Lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) coolant is pumped around the sealed lead reflector jacket as a primary coolant

- The LBE loop also serves as a radiation shield and heat exchanger, transferring heat to the secondary supercritical water coolant loop

- Natural convection aided by electromagnetic pumps circulate the lead-bismuth eutectic coolant

- Secondary supercritical water coolant loop operates at a max of 16 MPa and 700 K

### Safety Systems

- Fully passive safety system with no active components required to maintain core integrity

- Automatic control rod management system that adjusts control rod position based on core temperature and neutron flux

- Finned core structure for uniform melting of the lead reflector jacket and to mitigate thermal expansion

- "Always on" design philosophy, reactor runs always hot and is only fully shut on decommissioning or for extensive dry-dock maintenance

- Lead jacket solidifies once the reactor is shut down, providing a passive safety mechanism, it melts again when the reactor is restarted

- LBE coolant protected from Polonium activation and build up by the sealed molten lead reflector jacket - no mixing of coolant and shielding materials

- Always-on reactor core, with power regulated by control rods, and by steam turbine load - no need for rapid startup or shutdown

## Propulsion
