Chapter 89 - The Curse of the Strongest

Back with the group, Licht said, "Sir, please—go ahead."

Astreous addressed them all. "What all of you did is a service that words can't describe. And I can promise—each and every one of you deserves the title of Grand Knight after this incident. But… it's something you can't be awarded for."

Gelda frowned. "But why, sir? They risked their lives and saved over 20,000 people!"

Lilith sighed. "It can't be helped."

Astreous explained, "The truth is… we can't reveal the details of your mission. If the general public found out that a demon escaped from the underworld 20 years ago, it would spread mass panic. It would shake faith in the Order—and in our leadership. Religious extremists would react violently. The truth is far too dangerous."

Liebe nodded solemnly. "We understand, sir."

Elizabeth asked, "But sir… can't we at least get a promotion?"

Astreous shook his head. "No. It wouldn't be possible. You are knights—knights who joined to help the people. And while your contributions, Elizabeth Briar, were significant… the stability of the nation must come before all."

Licht said quietly, "We understand, sir."

Astreous smiled. "But before anything else… here's a small reward. I spoke with the doctors, and for the next few days—while you're still here—you're no longer obligated to your medical dietary restrictions. You can eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and however much you want."

Liebe immediately said, "I want burgers!"

Licht added, "Pizza!"

Alysa joined in, "Pizza!"

Elizabeth grinned, "Chili fries!"

Astreous laughed. "And a steak for me. Also, Liebe, let me take a look at you."

He stared into Liebe's eyes for 90 seconds, then said, "Liebe… you are truly destined for greatness."

Then he turned to Lilith. "Go easy on the Vice Captain. He deserves love too, you know."

Lilith smiled faintly. "Understood."

Licht whispered, "How did he know?"

Liebe blinked. "I have no idea."

Alysa said, "Time magic really does work wonders…"

Liebe turned to Astreous. "Please wait, sir."

Astreous paused. "What is it?"

Liebe asked, "Please, sir—grant me one sparring match before you leave."

Astreous hesitated. "I already promised to train you. And you're still recovering. Fighting now isn't right."

Liebe bowed his head. "Please, sir."

Astreous sighed. "Fine. But here are the terms—I won't use a blade or my magic. Just a wooden broadsword."

Liebe nodded. "Understood."

As they walked toward the sparring ground, Licht whispered, "What's even the point? Liebe will lose regardless."
