Hailee's POV
After Nathan ended the call, I sat there for a while, staring at the silent phone in my hand. My heart was still racing, partly from annoyance, partly from something else I didn't want to name.
A few moments later, I sighed and picked up my new cell phone from the table. I'd only gotten it a few hours ago. Peter insisted I needed to "keep up with the times." For once, I was glad he did.
I scrolled through my contacts until I found Nathan's name, then smiled faintly.
"I have a phone now," I texted quickly. "Let's make this easier."
Almost instantly, a reply came back.
"Video or voice?"
I hesitated for a second, then typed:
"Video."
His response came with a single word.
"Brace yourself."
Before I could even roll my eyes, the call came through. I took a deep breath and accepted it.
The screen lit up, and there he was.
