Chapter 3 - January 15, 2047

I sat horseback next to Katie as she sat on her flashy gelding. Her and I went to the sales and found her a flashy horse. Dad disapproved, but uncle Colt told him we needed a few new heifers. Sadly, uncle Colt had to join our girls' trip, per my dad. He was not happy, but we got what we wanted, and the horse chose her instead of her choosing the horse. My boyfriend did not do anything special for me for the holidays.

It was like this for my birthday, too. He only cares about having me as a girlfriend and giving him nice things without reciprocating.

I had forgotten about his Christmas present, given how much time I was spending with my family and horse.

He showed violence on the first day back to school when I did not give him a Christmas present. I have bruises on my upper arm from him grabbing it. I have done my best to hide the bruises. Katie may be the only one who knows. She had accidentally barged into the bathroom after I had showered a day or two afterwards.

She didn't tell our parents that it happened. Our brothers would have already found him and dealt with it their way. I don't know what will happen if I try to break up with him. I may have to stick it out until he is done with me.

We finally headed back to the barn to bed our horses down. Ranger is still three, but the American Horse Registry says he's four years old. We brushed them down before feeding and watering them. We walked to the house and kicked our boots off inside the house. At the dinner table, I was working on homework. "Kylie, could you please put your homework away for a moment?" Dad asked. I tucked the papers and pencil away from the table.

"Thank you." He said. At the end of dinner, I showered and finished my homework briskly before going to bed.

As I got up and dressed, my boyfriend called me, trying to yell at me over the phone. I let it ring multiple times as I got ready for the day. Once at the school, I joined my friends in our little group.

I sat in the same class as my boyfriend. He is currently holding my hand against my will. It hurts when he squeezes it. When I try to pull it away, he pulls it closer to him and squeezes it tighter. When class was over, he kept hold of my hand as I went to my locker. Even if I needed both hands, I could only use one. I needed to pee too. One of my friends looked at me with sympathy.

He went with me to a class that he did not have and sat in someone else's assigned seat. The guy who was supposed to sit behind me told him to get up. My boyfriend said, "No." I wanted to say yes. "Mr. Jacobs, you are not in my class. Exit now before you earn yourself a detention." Mr. Ralph said. He did not move. I wanted to get rid of his hand. He kept squeezing it tighter.

It was like that all day. He even tried to drag me to his truck. Matthew made him let go of me. I got into the truck with Matthew and hid my wrist. He probably would've turned the truck around, and I wanted to go home. Once through the ranch gates, I got dropped off at the drive to the house and walked to the house. I entered the house and kicked my boots off. I went right to my room and started my homework. The hard problems were not that bad, but when I got stuck, I'd leave it for now and finish the rest of them later when one of my older brothers is in the house.

I threw on my HeyDudes and went down to the barn. A shrill whinny greeted me as I walked in. I went right up to Golden Ranger and greeted him. "Hey, bub, how are you doing?" He nickered to me as I opened his stall door. He had to get his scratches in before we did our chores.

I mucked his stall out along with the rest of the horses on the same side as him. I gave them all fresh water and hay. The last horse was a mean stud colt. I shooed him out of his stall and locked the gate to his run.

I cleaned his stall, gave him fresh water and hay before letting him back in and getting out of the stall. It was already about dinner time. I took the manure and dumped it in the pile before putting it back where it belongs.

I went right to the house after kissing my horse on the nose. I entered the house, kicking my shoes off and washing my hands. I popped into the kitchen as mom was finishing up. "Right on time." She said.
