Chapter 23 - starlight execution

Immediately Michael called out the skill's name; the arrow left the woman's bow, heading straight for the incoming army. The arrow, true to its name, was able to pierce through a legion of those monsters, and it didn't stop. It moved so fast that in about a minute, thousands of those creatures were killed just from that one arrow, and the arrow hasn't stopped yet as it kept killing and piercing through those creatures.

While Michael was still focused on the memory of the woman, his body was moving; it was like he was in a trance of some kind.

While Michael's mind was locked on the vision of the mysterious woman, his body moved on autopilot, like he'd slipped into a shadowy trance. Without even realizing it, he mirrored her every move with eerie precision, syncing perfectly to her rhythm as if he were her reflection. Lost in the memory's spell, Michael forgot all about David Blackwood and the system's looming task; there was only the woman, and the dance his body couldn't resist.

Michael's body mimicked how the woman positioned her body, to how she raised her bow, to when she was about to release the arrow.

That's when Michael called out the skill name just before the woman and his body were ready to let their arrows fly.

[Star grace: Piercing the Stars] Michael called out; immediately the arrow was let loose.

The arrow burst from the bow in a blaze of light, slicing through the air faster than thought. It left a shimmering trail, streaking across the dark sky like a falling star, warping the wind in its wake. Every creature below froze, watching as the arrow tore through clouds and shadows, descending upon those creatures; the arrow was a weapon of mass destruction, or was it massacre?

Just as the woman unleashed her arrow, so did Michael's body release his own arrow from the celestial Star bow in the real world. While the blur woman's arrow was like a beacon of light across the sky and was aimed at the incoming legion of creatures, Michael's was a beacon of darkness, totally drained of light, as light couldn't stand before the dark arrow and didn't have a choice but to bow at the weapon sent forth from the shadow monarch; this arrow was heading for no one else than for David Blackwood.

David Blackwood saw the incoming arrow, and he knew he couldn't dodge it; the arrow had completely locked him down, and he had nowhere else to hide.

The arrow pierced through David's shoulder, and there was a huge hole in it; it was gushing out a lot of blood. David's arm was almost blown up by that single arrow.

David Blackwood screamed and was holding his now hole-shaped shoulder. He wanted to turn and beg Michael to spare his life, but just as he was just about turning, what he saw shocked him, and he couldn't help but cry.

Right in front of him, Michael had already drawn another arrow and was already aiming it at him.

Michael's hand was torn and bleeding just by firing that single arrow; if Michael's mind was in full control of his body, he would have been shocked at how bad his hand was damaged right now.

The woman drew another arrow, but this time she raised her bow upwards towards the dark sky and unleashed her arrow.

Just like before, she called out the skill's name, but Michael couldn't hear her, but he was able to shout out the skill's name before she even released the arrow.

[Star grace: star guide] Michael shouted just as she released the arrow.

The arrow flew through the midnight starlit night and landed directly in the middle of the legion of creatures, and then with a blinding light, the arrow exploded and consumed the entire army.

Just in the same way, Michael's body released the arrow into the sky and was able to pierce right through David Blackwood's heart, ending his life as his body dropped dead.

There was total silence immediately after David's body hit the ground, as it was like the dungeon was holding its breath, anticipating what was going to happen next.

Immediately the memory vanished, and Michael's mind returned to his body. "What was that?" Michael asked himself. "Who was that woman, and how was I able to see her memories? Ahh," Michael shouted. Just as Michael was trying to ponder on the mystery of the memory and who that woman was, he felt a jolt of pain in his hands. His hands were torn and bleeding very much, but for an awakened one, it was not a problem as it could heal, but it would take some time, and he could even heal immediately if he was attended to by a healer. Michael was shocked and couldn't possibly understand how he could have gotten so injured without even knowing.

Ding - Ding

Immediately Michael heard the sound of his system.

Ding - Ding

{Task: kill David Blackwood before the end of today. (Completed)

Punishment: system disabled. Reward: ??

Receiving system rewards.

{You have killed David Blackwood.

You grow stronger.}

(You have received a shadow.)

Shadow: 1/100.

"What? What? How?" Michael had a lot of questions right now. When did he complete the system task? And what does it mean he has received a shadow? What are even shadows? Clearly, he hadn't heard of anything like that, and how was he able to receive one?

Michael was finally able to see the dead body of David Blackwood laying on the dungeon floor, but he couldn't understand how he was able to kill him.

[Prepare to receive system reward.]

Just as Michael was trying to imagine what the reward would be maybe an echo or familiar but whatever reward the system was giving him should have been awesome, right?

Michael was still thinking what his reward would be until he felt something rolling down his face. Michael used his hand to touch his eye, and he was able to see blood flowing from his eyes. "What happened to my eyes?"

Immediately Michael felt a jolt of pain he had never felt before in his life coming from his eyes.
