Chapter 83 - Chapter 83: First Meeting

After completing his major battles, Lucas began reaching out to various large guilds. He had set up appointments with several well-known names across the region, each holding strong reputations in the game community. These guilds were full of powerful players and influential leaders, but Lucas was selective—he knew what he wanted.

To his surprise, many of the guild leaders had personally come out to meet him. This showed that they were taking him seriously, probably because of his outstanding performance in recent competitions. Yet, despite their enthusiasm, the offers they made were disappointing.

Most of them only offered him senior management positions, not leadership roles. None dared to promise the position of future guild president, unlike Logan Barrett from the Shengshi Guild, who had boldly made that commitment. It seemed these guilds were cautious, possibly doubting whether even a talented player like Lucas—an S-Level Talent—could ever make it to the legendary Level 4, Level 100 status.

Sure, their resources and perks were generous. But Lucas wasn't just looking for handouts—he wanted long-term opportunity, respect, and autonomy.

Silently, Lucas crossed each of those guilds off his list.

Big guilds came with complex hierarchies and internal politics. Climbing the ladder could be just as difficult as battling monsters. He realized that these weren't the places for him. None of the large guilds, despite their status, felt right.

With that, he shut his leather-bound notebook with a sigh.

"Alright, that's it for the big guilds. Time to meet with the small and mid-sized ones," he muttered to himself.

Though he was tired—mentally and emotionally worn from multiple meetings—he felt a small spark of hope. There were only a few more meetings left, all with smaller guilds that had caught his eye for unique reasons. Maybe one of them would be a better match.

Among these, the top contender was a peculiar-sounding guild named "Tower Demolition Team."

At first, the name made him pause. It sounded aggressive and maybe even a little childish. But the more he thought about it, the more he liked it.

"It's straightforward, determined, and fearless," Lucas thought. "They know what they want—to destroy the mysterious towers that loom over this world."

Even massive guilds like Shengshi, despite all their might, avoided talking about those towers. Even Logan Barrett, their guild president, had remained quiet on the subject.

But Lucas was deeply interested in the Mysterious Towers, and any group bold enough to name themselves after taking them down—well, that was worth a meeting.

Using the contact number he had been given earlier, Lucas reached out and set a time to meet later that day at a local coffee shop.

---

At precisely 2:10 PM, Lucas arrived at the café. The meeting was scheduled for 2:30, but he preferred being early to compose himself.

However, the moment he entered the café, he spotted someone already seated near the window—a composed, confident woman who looked like she belonged in command.

She was already there, twenty minutes early!

Lucas recognized her immediately.

She was Jade Walker, the president of the Tower Demolition Team.

He had seen her before—online videos, tournament replays, and university forums. She wasn't just anyone.

She was the reigning national college league champion—both in individual duels and team battles.

Representing Kyoto University, she had crushed every opponent, earning two national titles in a single season. Compared to Lucas's title in the freshman competition, her accolades carried far more weight. She had faced and defeated the top-tier elites from universities across the country.

She was a fighter-class, an SS Level Talent, and extremely powerful. Lucas had seen footage of her in action. Her blows were devastating, her tactics sharp, and her presence on the battlefield... intimidating.

There was a story about how she refused to join any guild during her freshman year—even when the mighty Shengshi Guild came calling. Instead, she founded her own.

Now, after three years, she was a Level 72 warrior, only a few steps away from the elusive Level 4 transfer, something only the elite could dream of.

Lucas straightened his shoulders and approached.

"Hello! Sorry to keep you waiting. I'm Lucas," he said, offering a handshake.

Jade stood and smiled, accepting the handshake firmly. "Not at all, we just arrived. I'm Jade Walker, president of the Tower Demolition Team."

Lucas noted how her handshake was both gentle and powerful. It matched the aura she exuded—strong, confident, but not arrogant.

"This is the head of our logistics team, Emily Frost," she said, introducing the young woman standing beside her.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Emily," she greeted politely, giving Lucas a small nod. She stood half a step behind Jade, clearly deferring to her as the leader but still radiating competence.

Lucas nodded back. "Hello, Minister Emily."

From her demeanor, Lucas could tell that Emily was Jade's trusted lieutenant. If she was involved in this meeting, it meant that Jade was taking Lucas's potential recruitment very seriously.

He also recognized Emily from school forums—she too was a student at Kyoto University, one year above him. Her exact class or level was unknown, but her presence here said enough.

They all sat down and Lucas signaled a waiter. Soon, three cups of coffee were brought to the table.

Jade didn't waste time.

"Lucas, your performance in the Secret Realm was amazing. You've been turning heads."

She sipped her coffee once and placed the cup down, clearly uninterested in the drink itself. Her focus remained on Lucas.

Emily, meanwhile, sipped slowly and stayed quiet, letting her leader handle the conversation.

"But I have to admit, I'm a little curious," Jade continued. "The report says you're an S-Level Talent with a hidden profession—Shadow Assassin. But frankly, you don't seem like an ordinary S-Level player. You're much stronger."

Lucas smiled calmly, "I understand the confusion. But yes, I'm just an S-Level Talent, and my class is indeed Shadow Assassin."

Of course, that was only partially true. In reality, he possessed a secret system, and his true class was God-killing Assassin, an SSS-Level hidden evolution. But that was a secret he intended to keep—always.

Jade narrowed her eyes slightly, thinking. She trusted official records. Talent levels and class designations were stored in Transfer Stones and government databases, both extremely hard to manipulate.

Still, she couldn't shake off the feeling. Lucas seemed... beyond the charts.

"Would you mind showing your class interface? Just to clear my doubts," she asked politely.

Lucas nodded and activated a public display version of his character panel—basic but authentic. It showed his name, class (Shadow Assassin), talent level (S), and current level. But it excluded the deeper stats like skill trees, equipment, or Talent abilities.

Jade leaned forward, studying the panel carefully.

"Huh. It really is S-Level... and Shadow Assassin." Her voice hinted at lingering disbelief, but she didn't press further.

Lucas watched her reaction carefully. He knew he had convinced her of the basics but had also left just enough mystery to keep her intrigued.

This meeting wasn't just about recruitment—it was a strategic dance. One where both sides tried to evaluate each other's value without giving away too much.

For Lucas, the Tower Demolition Team was turning out to be the most promising lead yet.

They weren't just skilled; they were ambitious, transparent, and had nothing to prove to anyone but themselves.

Most importantly, they weren't afraid of the Mysterious Towers—and Lucas knew, deep down, that these towers would become the center of everything in the future.

And any guild that aimed to tear them down?

That was exactly where he belonged.
