Marcus gulped hard and breathed a deep sigh, knowing he had messed up. He clenched his lips and held his cheek, the exact place Nina had slapped him.
He was thinking of how to appease Nina. He eventually rose up and left for the sitting room to talk with her.
Upon getting there, Nina was sitting on a couch with her hands folded across her chest, her mood epitomizing sadness. Slowly but gently, he walked closer to her.
"I'm... I'm sorry for what happened," he said.
Nina raised her gaze and looked at him. She gave him an awkward look before folding her arms around her chest and shifting to the edge of the couch.
A feigned giggle appeared on Marcus' lips as he saw her reaction. He then walked and sat next to her.
"I'm sorry, Nina. I never meant to upset you." He slowly held her arms and pulled her closer to himself, eventually making her fall back on his chest. "I'm so sorry," he added, his voice soft and soothing.
