Chapter 315 - 315. Inciting Hatred

Rudolph thought that the militiamen who went to the battlefield were organized by the captain of the militia. A group of militiamen with little military training rushed towards the restoration army in a hurry. But what surprised Rudolph was that the officers of the militia team began to disperse the team when they approached the battlefield.

There was a team leader for every 10 people. The team leader asked the militiamen to hide in the houses and wait for the arrival of the restoration army.

The militia team that Rudolph was in looked very strange.

3 circus members, with grease paint on their faces. They were obviously funny characters who made people laugh, but now they were hiding in the corner with guns.

2 children, one of whom counted his bullets repeatedly, fearing that one was missing. The other child finally found that he had lost the grenade forever, and was pestering the magician to change the grenade back.

2 strong fishermen who often did rough work.

2 middle-aged fishermen with hunched backs, sparse hair, rough skin, and years of labor made these two people unable to stand up straight.

The squad leader was a skinny old man smoking a pipe. This old man looked calmer. The fact that he could become a militia squad leader proved that he might have served in the army when he was young.

There was no light in the room. From time to time, there were sounds of artillery fire outside. The squad leader glanced at his militia members in the room, and finally his eyes fell on Rudolph and Cooper.

Being young and male, these two points made Rudolph and Cooper stand out from the crowd.

  "You two come here."

Rudolph and Cooper walked towards the squad leader, not knowing what the captain was going to do.

Rudolph and the other two had the ability to escape at any time, but they did not take action because of the witch hunters. They were only hiding temporarily in this militia squad.

"I haven't seen you. Where are you from?" The dark and thin captain looked at the two men and made sure that he had not seen them in the western suburbs of the city of Kodor Port.

"We run a wandering circus. We wanted to do a few shows in Khodor Harbor to make some money, but we were unlucky and caught up with the war."

"Your luck is not bad, but very bad. You shouldn't come here at this time, but who can predict this?" The thin and dark captain exhaled a cigarette and said, "No matter how you came, you two will be needed to fight the Restoration Army. The others are old, young, and women. They are unreliable."

Rudolph couldn't help asking, "Why don't you hide all the time? Can't you just hide here until the war is over?"

The thin and dark captain raised his eyes and looked at Rudolph with a strange look.

Rudolph was not to be outdone. If this captain had some other thoughts, then this captain would have done his job.

In his opinion, the war between the Restoration Army and the Constitution Army had nothing to do with ordinary people, let alone the three outsiders, so why bother.

However, what Rudolph saw in the eyes of the thin and dark captain was not hostility, but ridicule, as if he thought everything Rudolph said was a joke.

If this little old man disobeys, Rudolph has a way to make him obedient, but this little old man mocks him. This mockery has nothing to do with strength, but is a mockery that comes from experience, just like how Rudolph looked at the child who threw the grenade, which made him not know how to deal with it.

The dark and thin captain looked at the militiamen, old and young, behind Rudolph and said, "We can't hide till the end. This is no longer the port city of Kodor. This is a battlefield, and it is also a port that the Restoration Army and the Constitution Army will never give up. We can't escape."

Rudolph disagreed, "I don't think our team needs to shoot at some strangers. The Restoration Army is all from the eastern plains of the United States of Elba. They have no grudges against us. What reason is there to fight to the death? Hiding, hiding, and waiting for the storm to pass, shouldn't this be the way for ordinary people to survive?"

"You're right..." The dark and thin captain stopped arguing, "The ideal situation should be like this. The people of Kodor and the people of the eastern plains originally had no grudges. However, hatred will come to us soon. They have many ways to make us full of hatred, hate the plains people, hate the Restoration Army, hate the nobles, this is very easy..."

Gradually, the vibration caused by the shells came, proving that the battle line was approaching here.

The house was shaking, and bundles of soil fell from the roof. Time suddenly passed very slowly, maybe ten seconds, maybe twenty seconds, and a sound was heard in the house.

The two children fell to the ground at this moment. People looked towards the center of the house, and the fear on their faces disappeared. It was not a shell, but just a piece of plaster on the roof that fell off. The house was damaged by the vibration of the artillery fire, and the plaster could not bear the weight.

It was a false alarm, and the others put down the guns they had raised to their chests.     Just when they relaxed for a while, the dense footsteps outside made everyone nervous again.

The thin and dark captain leaned on the window and watched the Restoration Army passing by.

There were 9 cavalrymen in front and a group of infantrymen behind. I don't know where they want to go from this remote place.

Rudolph stared at the captain to prevent him from shooting rashly for military merit, future or anything else. However, Rudolph realized the next moment that he could defend against the captain in front of him, but he couldn't defend against the militia hiding in other houses.

I don't know who fired the first shot, the gunshots were crisp and bright.

  "Hey... it's started..."

The thin and dark captain sighed and looked up at the sky again. There was an airship of the Restoration Army not far away in the sky.

Rudolph couldn't help asking: "What started?"

"The hatred started... It was the officers sent by the Constitutional Army who fired the gun. It sounded like a pistol, not the rifles issued to us."

There were sparse gunshots in the surrounding houses, but these gunshots clearly told the Restoration Army that there was an ambush here.

The Restoration Army, who had boldly come to the enemy's rear to seize the port, was extremely nervous at this time. They started to fight back as soon as they heard the gunshots. They pulled artillery on their carriages, unloaded the artillery on the ground, and began to bombard the houses where the muzzle flash had just appeared.

The Restoration Army was a professional soldier, and their movements were so fast. In the continuous bombardment, several houses collapsed instantly.

In a half-collapsed house, a fisherman climbed out from under the corner of the collapsed wall. He didn't even take a gun in a panic. But how could the Restoration Army distinguish these details at this time? Not everyone had a level 4 sensor wolf pupil.

A flying axe flew in a rotation and split the fisherman's head in half.

The Restoration Army not only maintained the cold weapon tradition of the previous royal army, but also learned the war methods of the alchemists, so they used whatever was convenient.

The fisherwoman behind Rudolph suddenly stretched out her hand like crazy and wanted to slap the window next door, but was stopped by Yvonne.

"That's my brother! That's my brother!"

Yvonne and Rudolph thought the same thing, they wanted to hide here until the end of the war, but her behavior now caused hatred from this militia squad.

"My brother is dead! Why are you stopping me?"

Yvonne froze there, at a loss.

The dark and thin captain put away his pipe: "You see, the hatred has begun. They have mastered morality and justice, and know how to incite hatred. No one can resist."

Rudolph's squad did not fight back, but some people from other militia squads could not help but took action first.

So, the people of Kodor Port and the people of the plains, who had nothing to do with each other, became enemies to the death tonight.

Yvonne had to let go of the fisherman's wife because she was about to bite Yvonne.

Rudolph watched the fisherman's clumsy aiming and shooting. Although she was very unskilled, her eyes were already full of hatred.
