Chapter 3 - #3.Scattered memory

A bone-wrenching, soul-searing encounter upon meeting?

Or being burned to death by Fiendfyre?

Ivan shuddered at the thought of the tragic encounters that might occur, trying hard to recall the original owner's memories.

Perhaps due to the transmigration, these memories seemed scattered and hidden deep within, eluding Ivan's desperate attempts to retrieve them.

"Damn it, if only I could remember more," Ivan muttered, a headache forming. It seemed he had to learn Legilimency before the end of the term and find a way to use the Pensieve in the headmaster's office to sort through his memories; otherwise, he was very likely to be exposed.

For that matter, Ivan didn't even know where his own home was now.

No one had ever heard of a transmigrator being in such a fix as he was.

"Harry Potter!"

Just as Ivan was pondering how to sneak into the restricted section to learn Legilimency, Professor McGonagall's loud voice drew Ivan's attention back to the Sorting Ceremony.

Not just Ivan, but in that instant, all the young wizards and professors turned their gazes to the stage, as if replaying Ivan's own time on stage. But clearly, Ivan's slight uniqueness couldn't compare to the savior's prestige.

As a bespectacled, somewhat thin, and awkward young wizard stepped onto the stage, enthusiastic applause immediately erupted from below. The Gryffindors in the second year beside Ivan were clapping until their palms were red, staring intently at the forehead partially covered by hair, as if hoping to see the lightning-shaped scar.

"Harry Potter? Is she talking about *the* Harry Potter?"

"My mum said he defeated the Dark Lord as soon as he was born!"

"I really hope he gets sorted into Gryffindor!"

Ivan followed the crowd and applauded, otherwise, he would stand out too much in this seating area.

Of course, Ivan also felt that this was the honor Harry deserved, after all, Harry's tragic childhood of being bullied stemmed from the death of his parents.

If it hadn't been for Lily Potter sacrificing her life to cast a protective magic that robbed the powerful Voldemort of his strength, who knows how many people would have died in the wizarding world...

Upon hearing that Harry Potter would be entering Gryffindor, the young wizards in the entire seating area went wild. The Weasley twins even hugged each other excitedly, shouting, "Potter! We've got Potter!", while the applause from the Slytherin side was much lighter.

Especially the Slytherin prefect leaning against the front row, his expression was a bit unsightly after hearing the Sorting Hat say that Harry expressed his refusal to enter Slytherin.

Ivan silently observed everything, a slight smile curving his lips, knowing that this was because Harry's savior aura was still present. After a while, when everyone discovered that Harry Potter was just an ordinary young wizard besides his title, they probably wouldn't care so much.

Ivan was complaining in his heart, but when he raised his eyes and swept over Dumbledore, who was smiling at Harry, he suddenly felt that the Slytherin prefect's worries were justified. After all, with the headmaster's help in giving the savior an advantage, not to mention anything else, Slytherin could forget about the House Cup for these next few terms at least.

Seeing Harry walk down from the stage, the Gryffindor prefect, Percy Weasley, almost eagerly went forward to shake his hand vigorously the second Harry stepped off the stage. Most people also vacated the seats next to them, seemingly hoping to have a good chat with the savior.

Even George and Fred ran over to join in the fun, and Ivan's side suddenly became empty.

Ivan had no intention of joining in the fun, unconcerned, he enjoyed the feast in front of him. It was said that British cuisine was authentic dark cuisine, but Hogwarts' was unexpectedly good. Ivan felt that this might be because Hogwarts' food was made by house-elves, rather than British wizards.

Dimly, Ivan seemed to feel someone watching him. He looked up and saw Dumbledore staring at him with those silvery-blue eyes.

Ivan wasn't at all intimidated. He pretended to be well-behaved and shy, smiled at Dumbledore, and then stuffed a large piece of cake into his mouth, swallowing it in a few bites.

Perhaps because Ivan's aura as a foodie was strong, or perhaps Dumbledore was just having a whim, after returning a smile, the greatest white wizard turned his gaze elsewhere.

After the Sorting Ceremony, there was still plenty of time for the young wizards to dine. Ivan ate until he could no longer hold it, and then Dumbledore waved his wand to clear away the leftovers.

The full table of delicacies suddenly disappeared without a trace, just as suddenly as they had appeared before.

The magical magic, for the older young wizards who had seen it many times, was no longer surprising, but for Ivan, who had truly witnessed magic for the first time, it was still very novel.

Dumbledore then slowly stood up at this time, and the eyes of the audience also focused on the stage with Dumbledore's actions.

"Ah, now that we are all full, let me say a few more words. I now want to issue a few school notices."

Dumbledore's voice echoed in the hall, his eyes swept over the standing freshmen below, and then towards the Weasley brothers.

"New students should pay special attention: the forest area on the school grounds is forbidden for any students to enter. I think the upperclassmen should also remember this."

"Mr. Filch, our caretaker, wants me to remind you that you are not allowed to use magic in the corridors between classes."

"Quidditch tryouts will be held in the second week."

After briefly emphasizing the rules that were in place every semester, Dumbledore paused briefly and then raised his tone again.

"Finally, I must warn you that those who do not want to die a miserable death should not go to the fourth-floor corridor on the right this year!"

After listening, Ivan couldn't help but complain about Dumbledore's fishing remarks.

He only said how dangerous it was, but didn't reveal any other information, not even saying why they couldn't go there, putting on a mysterious appearance. How could some young wizards with bursting curiosity endure it?

Sure enough, Dumbledore's stern warning didn't seem to have the desired effect. Several freshmen even laughed it off, while the upperclassmen showed serious expressions.

Of course, those with serious expressions did not include the Weasley brothers, who were secretly discussing something. Ivan guessed that they were very likely to go and see the corridor that could cause people to die miserably.

It's just that Ivan felt that before that, Dumbledore would personally talk to them in advance, or have the caretaker Filch focus on them.

Lest they cause some trouble.
