The roar of the crowd filled the Celadon Grand Arena as Blastoise dominated the battlefield. Water cannons gleamed under the harsh lights, blasting jets of water with ruthless precision. Riolu was barely holding on—its small frame dodging, weaving, but each dodge was slower than the last. Its breathing grew ragged, body trembling with exhaustion.
"Riolu, sidestep and counter with Force Palm!" Kira called out, her voice tinged with desperation.
Riolu tried. It dashed forward, palm glowing, but Blastoise pivoted smoothly, its massive arm sweeping to block the strike. With a shove, Riolu was thrown back across the battlefield, skidding and panting.
Ray watched intensely from the stands, his fists clenched. "This is bad. Riolu can't take another hit like that."
Ritchie's voice cut through the noise. "Blastoise, Hydro Cannon—finish this!"
The cannons locked on Riolu, energy surging within them. A faint whistle of power built as a torrent of water prepared to fire. Riolu's legs shook. It wasn't fast enough to dodge in its current state.
"Kira," Ray whispered, "you need something more..."
A Spark of Connection
At that moment, something shifted.
Kira's eyes widened as she stared at Riolu. It was more than just a battle cry or instinct—it was as if a thread of light tied them together. She could feel it. The pounding of Riolu's heart, the strain of its muscles, the fire of its determination.
"Get up, Riolu," Kira said, her voice soft but unwavering. "We're not done. Not yet."
Riolu's ears twitched. It looked back at her, and for a moment, the world seemed to slow. A soft blue light began to glow faintly around Riolu's body.
Ray's system flashed a notification in front of his eyes:
[Aura Synchronization Detected]Trainer: Kira Damos – Pokémon: RioluSynchronization Level: 12% – Rising
Ray's eyes widened. Aura synchronization? a deep connection between Trainer and Pokémon that could amplify strength beyond natural limits.
"Kira… you're doing something incredible," he murmured.
The Counterattack
The Hydro Cannon fired, a massive torrent of water hurtling toward Riolu. But this time, Riolu's eyes burned with blue light.
"Now, Riolu—sidestep!" Kira commanded with newfound confidence.
Riolu leapt, spinning mid-air with an agility it hadn't shown before. The water slammed into the ground where it once stood, splintering the arena floor. As Riolu landed, the blue aura flared brighter.
"Close in! Aura Sphere!"
Riolu charged its paws, gathering condensed energy between them. The glowing sphere formed faster and brighter than usual, the synchronization boosting its precision. With a sharp cry, Riolu hurled the Aura Sphere directly at Blastoise.
The attack struck true, slamming into Blastoise's chest and forcing it back several steps. The crowd erupted into cheers.
The Final Moments
But Blastoise wasn't down. Its eyes narrowed, steam rising from its shell.
"Blastoise, Crush Drive!" Ritchie barked.
Blastoise surged forward with surprising speed for its size, ramming Riolu with its shell. Riolu cried out, rolling across the arena. Its blue aura flickered weakly—it had given everything.
Kira clenched her fists. "Riolu, no!"
The small Fighting-type struggled to stand but collapsed to one knee. Still, it forced itself up one last time, staggering, but standing tall—just long enough to give Kira a defiant look before falling forward, unable to continue.
"Riolu is unable to battle! The victory goes to Ritchie's Blastoise!" the referee announced.
The crowd erupted, some cheering for Ritchie, others applauding Riolu's bravery.
Kira rushed to the field, kneeling beside Riolu. She cradled it gently, smiling through her disappointment. "You were amazing. I felt everything you gave me… thank you."
Ray, watching from the stands, couldn't help but smile. He'd seen it all—the evolution of Kira's bond with Riolu. And he knew this wasn't over.
The scoreboard flashed: 1–1.
