Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: A Manga Called Yuru Camp

Shining Animation Studio

The latest issue of Future Manga Weekly had just been released.

Early in the morning, Miyazumi Shi went out and bought dozens of copies, bringing them back to the studio.

For most people in the animation industry, Future Manga had been a part of their lives since childhood. A fresh issue every week was something they couldn't go without.

She carried the stack of magazines into Studio Three and distributed them one by one to the staff.

As the animators flipped through the pages, they noticed something new—a brand-new manga series.

Its title: Yuru Camp (Laid-Back Camp).

Just the cover alone caught their attention.

Then they flipped to the first pages—

And their eyes widened in shock.

The Art Was Too Stunning!

This level of detailed, exquisite artwork…

And it was used for a relaxing slice-of-life series?

What a waste!

If they had this level of talent, they would've gone straight for a battle manga, something that could dominate the charts in an instant.

It wasn't that they disliked slice-of-life stories—it was just that at least five out of every ten popular manga were battle series. That was simply the reality of the industry.

But even as they thought this, they couldn't stop turning the pages.

A Charming Cast & Cozy Atmosphere

The innocent and adorable little Renge made them smile unconsciously. The interactions between Komari and Natsumi felt like their sisterly roles were reversed. The silent older brother and the sleepy teacher were unexpectedly fun.And then, there was the transfer student, curious about everything.

It was all so refreshing.

They found themselves drawn in.

And then—

The scenic landscapes appeared.

The cherry blossoms. The quiet rural village. The vast, open fields under the sky.

Some of them felt nostalgic for their hometowns.

Some suddenly wanted to take a trip.

Some simply thought—"This is beautiful."

And Miyazumi Shi?

She thought—

"I want to stand in a place like this... with Su Yu."

After finishing the first chapter, she glanced around at the reactions of her colleagues.

Satisfied smiles.

Excited discussions.

She nodded to herself.

If even a bunch of jaded animators found Yuru Camp enjoyable, then ordinary readers would definitely love it.

Her expectations for the manga's performance skyrocketed.

And at the same time—

She began looking forward to her own manga.

Just thinking about its plot made her cheeks turn slightly red.

Good thing Su Yu never saw it that day.

Otherwise, explaining it would have been very, very awkward.

Sōbu High School – During Class

Su Yu stared out the window at the cherry blossoms.

He looked distracted.

But in reality, he was listening to every single word the teacher said—and remembering all of it.

That was the power of his enhanced memory.

He had already been notified that Yuru Camp had officially debuted.

Editor Tamura Nanako even wanted to personally deliver a copy of Future Manga Weekly to him.

Su Yu had rejected the idea outright.

But Nanako?

She used the excuse that it was an editor's responsibility to check on their manga authors—and was already on her way to Sōbu High.

Since she was coming anyway, Su Yu asked her to buy a few extra copies.

Nanako happily agreed.

She knew Su Yu and Yukinoshita Yukino attended the same school.

And while she had learned a bit about Yukino's background from Miyazumi Shi, it didn't change her plans.

As far as she was concerned, until Su Yu was married, he was her number one pursuit.

Between Classes

Su Yu received a message from Tamura Nanako.

She was stuck outside the school gates.

Good.

Security was doing its job.

After leaving the classroom and swapping his shoes at the lockers, Su Yu walked toward the school entrance.

When Nanako spotted him, she excitedly waved.

"Su Yu-sensei!"

The security guard gave Su Yu's uniform a confused look.

"She's just here to deliver something for me," Su Yu explained.

The guard nodded and walked away.

Nanako beamed.

"Here are five copies of the magazine!" She pulled them from her commuter bag and handed them over.

"Thanks, Editor Tamura. Here's the money for them." Su Yu passed her the payment.

Nanako pouted.

"Su Yu-sensei, you're too formal! Just call me Nanako!"

Then, her eyes gleamed with excitement.

"By the way—can I visit Sōbu High? Maybe during lunch or after school?"

Su Yu flipped through the magazine as he replied—

"Sōbu High isn't anything special. And I don't have free time, whether it's lunchtime or after school."

A clear rejection.

Nanako sighed dramatically.

"Such a shame…"

Su Yu glanced at the time.

"Class is starting soon. Thanks for making the trip. If I have time, I'll treat you to a coffee."

With that, he turned and headed back inside.

Nanako watched him go, not discouraged in the slightest.

She considered this a small victory.

If she hadn't come in person, Su Yu probably would've just dropped the manuscript off in Miyazumi Shi's office.

That would mean she wouldn't even get to see him.

The School Hallway

As Su Yu climbed the stairs, he was suddenly stopped.

Hiratsuka Shizuka stepped out of the teachers' office, blocking his path.

"Su Yu-kun," she said with a serious expression.

"Manga isn't allowed in school."

Su Yu didn't hesitate.

"Wanna read it? There's a manga I drew in this issue."

Shizuka's eyes lit up.

"Oh? Let me see."

"It's called Yuru Camp."

Su Yu handed her a copy.

Shizuka took it, lowered her voice, and smirked—

"Alright, I'll let it slide this time. If any other teachers see you, just say it's for the Service Club's research project. I'll allow you to bring manga to school—understand?"

Su Yu grinned.

"Understood. Thanks, Shizuka-sensei."

As he turned to leave, Shizuka suddenly spoke again.

"Oh, and Su Yu-kun—about my family matters."

She looked at him, her voice gentler than usual.

"You don't have to worry about it. Tamura won't bother you anymore."

Su Yu paused.

"…You heard what I said?"

Shizuka smiled and nodded.

Su Yu lowered his gaze.

"…I'm sorry I couldn't help. If I had arrived in this world ten years earlier, maybe—"

"If you want to help me, then don't let Yukino and Yui get hurt," Shizuka interrupted softly.

"I promised Haruno I'd look after Yukino. If it were up to me, I'd want you to choose her—but that's something only you can decide."

Su Yu took a deep breath—

Then nodded firmly.

Shizuka smiled in satisfaction.

"Alright. Go. Class is starting."

Lunch Break

As soon as the bell rang, signaling lunch, Su Yu noticed Hachiman Hikigaya and Saika Totsuka interacting.

Seeing the way Totsuka approached Hikigaya, Su Yu no longer had any doubts about their relationship.

All he could do now was hope that "Great Teacher Hachiman" could stay true to himself.

With Yuigahama's homemade bento in hand, along with the four remaining copies of Future Manga Weekly, Su Yu walked toward the Service Club—accompanied by three girls.

Meanwhile, Kawasaki Saki, who had been about to head off for lunch, saw Su Yu walking with them.

She quietly turned around and left the classroom.

She couldn't deny that Su Yu's offer was tempting.

After all, no matter who tutored her, it was unlikely that anyone could match Yukinoshita Yukino's teaching ability.

If she could get Yukino's help, her grades would definitely improve.

But—

She still didn't know what kind of person Su Yu truly was.

What if everything about him was an act?

Kawasaki wasn't willing to gamble on that possibility.

She wanted to observe him a little longer.

Or rather, she felt like she could hold out for a little longer.

If the day ever came when she truly had no other choice, then maybe—

She would finally accept Su Yu's offer.
