Chapter 2 - The first task

-Pearl City -

In a small inn known for its hospitality, a room is crowded with people. Inside we see Yang and the 3 slaves he bought today.

[They don't seem so special. They look like just any mortal we can find roaming the streets.]

'They will hear you, shut up for now you old ghost.' Yang thinks internally.

[Well I don't think they can because we share a body and our souls are connected. So, what do you plan to do now?]

'Is that so, that is a lot convenient then I thought it would be. First let's get to know them.'

"You three, what are your names and how did you become slaves? You big guy, you answer first." Yang points to the biggest of the bunch.

The kid visibly scared stutters "I...I am Brick. My father gave me the name. We were attacked by bandits when coming to Pea... Pearl city. I don't know what happened to others but I got sold to slave traders."

Yang lands his gaze upon Brick. Big and muscular, not what you would expect of a slave. He could definitely take some hits without even flinching. He was also the guy who cost him the most so Yang expected some gains. He moves his gaze to the next guy and he starts speaking, more calmly than Yang expected.

"Name's Tenfan. Sold by my parents because they didn't have enough money to gamble."

A gentle looking guy but you cant mistake the hatred in his eyes. He looked like a guy with Buddha's face and a demon's eyes. Now lastly.

"....."

He definitely said something. Am I losing my hearing? Yang asks the last kid to introduce himself again. He looks more like a girl then a guy with how shy he seems.

"HI, I AM JUDY." he blurts out in a very loud and sharp voice.

The long ringing in Yang's ear continues for a solid minute. Beside him Brick and Tenfan shut their ears. That was not a voice a human could produce and you would definitely not hear it from a guy who looks so shy. Yang could also swear that the birthmark on the kids neck moved like it was alive when he talked.

[Thats a incomplete sonar attack. To think a mortal can do it and not collapse his neck. I have memories of meeting some who could do that and it was not a fun experience fighting them. ]

'You mean to say that's a immortal technique? How could a slave have learned that?' Yang internally asks the ghost.

[For starters, definitely dont ask him if you want your ear intact. Maybe someone taught him but got separated before imparting the whole technique or something else entirely is at play. ]

' So what do we do now? '

[Tell them about yourself first, building trust is a monumental if you want to run a good sect. And slaves are definitely not known for their loyalty so maybe give them some candy. ]

"Ahem, I am Yang and I didn't buy you to do labour or anything. Infact I freed you from slavery. I run a sect by the name of 'Blue moon' and you are its first and the most important members. I will lead you to the path of cultivation, give you resources and make you strong. So follow my orders, offer me loyalty and you shall see heights previously unimaginable to you." Yang explains with flair. A merchant does know his ways.

As he looks back at the kids, two have their eyes shining like jeawls while the last one still has hatred. Oh well, lets call this a success and move on, this kids gonna take a long time.

'Old ghost, what tasks can we do at the moment?'

 [A lot.]

As the voice falls a long list appears before Yangs eyes.

{Kill the corrupted mayor.}

{Cleanse the blight forest.}

{Raid the gambling den.}

{Expose the head priest.}

{Attack the goblin village.}

{Kill the orc champion.}

'Stop! Stop! Stop! we can't do these tasks. We want rewards not ways to die.'

[Erm, there don't seem to be any here. May be location plays a role in all this because anything of less significance, guards and other cultivators would easily do it.]

'Okay we will think about this when we get to the sect location. Lets sleep for now and get going first thing tomorrow.'

"Alright kids, go wash, eat and rest up in your rooms. We will go to our sect tomorrow morning. Goodnight." He gently closes the door and lays in his bed. Some moments pass and Yang slowly falls asleep.

-The next morning -

Pearl city sees lines of carriages leaving the city gate. In one of these carriages, four men sit facing each other. As Yang spent too much on sect registration he is trying to save money where he can. The journey is long as land near cities are very expensive.

-7 days of journey later-

We see our little group stare at a giant hill with some houses scattered here and there. This hill had also cost Yang a lot but he believes it will be all worth it.

Seven days of journey had definitely taken a toll on them so they rest for the day.

Early the next day, Yang asks the old ghost to search for tasks. This time they looked manageable.

{Log a patch of forest.}

{Kill a goblin champion and its goons.}

{Build a dam.}

{Explore the hollow forest.}

Yang looks at the task and ponders that they definitely cant take anything combat related. After skipping those he looks at the rest and 'building a dam' catches his eye.

{Build a dam

The people have suffered due to flood every monsoon and the government takes no notice of their plight. Build a dam to save the villagers.

Reward:Blessing of villagers}

He looked at the reward and it was a blessing that gave a percentage boost to their constitution. This alone would make them more resilient during training and make them stronger.

Not having a cultivation technique to start teaching the disciples, this task would keep them busy and also reward them greatly.
