A thrill, sharp and intoxicating, shot through me. The Vexxons had finally called. They wanted to take me out. Finally.
It's been an eternity since they've paid me any real attention. Ever since that little mouse, Eleanor, scurried into their lives, it's as if I've become a ghost in my own story. It's infuriating. They don't know the bond is a masterpiece of my own creation, a beautiful, intricate lie. So why the neglect? Why are their eyes, which should only ever be filled with hunger for me, following her?
No matter. I will remind them today exactly who they belong to. I will be the sun, and they will be planets pulled into my orbit for life. That fragile thing they have with the mouse? I'll shatter it myself.
I studied my reflection in the full-length mirror. The blood-red gown was a second skin, hugging every curve, promising every sin. Perfect. A weapon disguised as desire. They won't be able to look away.
