He finally released my face, but his words were a new, more insidious prison. "And never think your life is safe," he added, his voice dropping to a venomous whisper. "No one will save you from me. Not even your friends. In fact, I'm going to sell them, too. They'll make quite a fortune. So the more you don't keep your mouth shut and get them involved, the less they'll be spared."
A white-hot rage flashed through me, so fierce I saw spots. But I bit the inside of my cheek until I tasted blood, forcing the words back down. Any retort would only seal their fate faster.
The limo door swung open, and Mr. Hans's face was instantly rearranged into that familiar, fake smile. I scrambled out immediately, not daring to look back at his smug expression.
Mira and Roxy were at my side in an instant. "What happened? What did he say to you in there?" Mira asked, her voice low and urgent.
