Vera's POV
I stared at him, the familial warmth I'd felt a moment ago freezing into something harder. "Since when do you have children in this city, Alfred?"
He gave a slow, knowing shake of his head. "Family does not always require a blood tie, Vera. They found me. And I found them. They've grown into remarkable, if terribly burdened, men."
"I don't think your… kids… are in this facility," I said, confused.
His gaze never wavered. "I am quite sure they are. And I know you are holding them. I can feel the resonance of their distress from here."
I wanted to argue, but the pieces were sliding into place with a cold, dreadful certainty.
My voice dropped. "You're talking about the Vexxon brothers."
"I am," he confirmed, his own voice gentle but unyielding. "I was concerned when the news broke and i lost all contact with them."
"So you used your seer abilities" I accused. "To find them"
