Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 – Watching the Numbers

Darren's alarm buzzed softly at six in the morning. Without hesitation, he grabbed his phone and opened the system app.

[Daily Check-in Complete: +£17 rebate credited.]

[Current Bank Balance: £1,254.35]

He smiled to himself — the balance was climbing, slowly but surely.

Each day followed the same pattern: check in, review investments, calculate growth, plan next steps.

It was a routine he never missed.

At the kitchen table, Darren pulled up the details on the neighborhood café the system had flagged.

[Investment Cost: £8,000]

[Projected Monthly Profit: £1,200]

[Rebate Bonus: +12% on related businesses]

His brows furrowed. It was a big step — more than the family had ever spent on a single purchase since they fell from grace.

He opened the banking app again, eyes flicking to the balance.

£1,254.35 — not enough to buy outright, but a solid start.

"Maybe I should save a bit more," he muttered.

Aria appeared, holding two mugs of tea.

"Mom says you've been working hard."

Darren nodded, taking the cup gratefully.

"We're getting there, Aria. One step at a time."

Later that afternoon, Darren stopped by the convenience store, chatting with neighbors and small business owners.

He was building more than just money — he was building trust.

The system pinged suddenly with a new notification:

[New System Feature Unlocked: Expenditure Multiplier]

[Description: Every amount spent will now trigger a multiplier reward ranging from 100x to 1000x return on that expenditure.]

[Conditions: Multiplier outcome varies by amount spent, timing, and system mood.]

[Warning: Risk of low multipliers if spending recklessly.]

Darren blinked, heart racing.

"So, spending money now could multiply my returns… but it's a gamble?"

He thought about the café — a big spend but possibly worth the risk.

The system pinged again:

[Mission Update: Maintain 10 consecutive daily check-ins to unlock next rebate tier.]

Darren's eyes narrowed.

The challenge was clear.

No shortcuts.

That night, he lay awake, mind racing.

Every pound added was a brick in their foundation.

Every smart move could change everything — but now, every pound spent was a potential jackpot.
