Chapter 44 - The Mark from Mysterious Doctor

David and Aurielle's bodyguards felt something strange. Their sensitivity to magical energy was enough to sense the spell Al had just cast.

But as usual, they failed to grasp the source of that energy and simply dismissed it as nothing more than their imagination.

The people there soon stopped paying attention to Al after he left.

Sarah chose to enter the luxurious restroom to check on Aurielle.

"Your special doctor is taking forever. Should I just call my doctor instead?" she said.

A weak hand waved lightly from below—Aurielle's hand—gesturing no.

"No need, Sarah," Aurielle said this time. She was already feeling a little better.

Maybe it was because she felt relieved after vomiting and calming herself down.

Or because Al had already left.

Or perhaps something else.

She wasn't sure.

But it felt as if something had forced her to throw up earlier… and now something else was making the nausea fade away.

What exactly were those things?

She had no idea.

Sarah simply nodded, relieved to see Aurielle looking better.

David watched the scene with a faint sense of confusion.

He had actually planned to cancel the spell he cast on Aurielle, thinking it should still be working. Yet she clearly seemed to be recovering already.

As an ordinary human, does the eldest sister have some kind of magical resistance? Or was my spell too weak, so the effect faded faster? he thought.

Hmph… probably that.

Or… could it be…?

His gaze briefly shifted to the bracelet in Edward's hand before he shook his head lightly.

Ah. No way. That thing is just some cheap trinket.

There was no clear answer, and he eventually stopped dwelling on the vague thought.

Sandra saw that Aurielle was getting better and felt relieved as well.

"Are you feeling better, Aurielle?" she asked worriedly.

Aurielle nodded weakly. Her body still felt quite exhausted.

"Yes, Mom," she replied softly as Sandra helped her stand up.

"Thank you, Mom," she said sincerely.

Then she looked at the others.

"You too… Dad, Sarah, David."

Finally she turned to her bodyguards. "Hil, Mira."

They all nodded in relief and approached her, telling her not to move too much before guiding her to sit on a soft sofa nearby.

Aurielle glanced around the room. Only after leaning back against the sofa did she finally ask,

"Al… where is that kid? Did he leave already?"

She actually already knew that Al had left, but she still felt the need to bring him up.

For some reason, she had a strange feeling.

Her nausea might indeed have been caused by her trauma—but the vomiting itself… probably wasn't.

From the beginning, she had been sitting very close beside Al. The only thing that made her uncomfortable should have been the trauma alone.

So why did she suddenly feel nauseous the moment Al lowered his head and apologized?

She couldn't understand it.

And somehow, she felt that would be a little unfair to Al.

After all… in the end, this whole situation wasn't entirely his fault.

Edward nodded.

"Yeah. He should already be back in his room," he replied. "You don't need to think about him right now. Focus on yourself first."

His face remained stiff, but there was a quiet fatherly concern in his tone.

Aurielle nodded lightly. Then, when she noticed something in Edward's hand, she remembered what Al had said earlier about giving her something to help her 'recover.'

"Oh right… Dad. Is that what Al said he gave me?" she asked.

Edward seemed to snap back to attention. He glanced at the bracelet, nodded, then held it out toward Aurielle.

"That's right. Here, if you want to take it."

Aurielle hesitated.

A faint uneasiness crept into her mind. She was worried the bracelet might trigger her trauma again.

Right now, in her mind, Al and the sewer were somewhat linked together. So anything that came from Al might drag her thoughts back to that sewer.

She felt conflicted.

Fortunately, Sarah's voice interrupted.

"Eldest Sister! You probably shouldn't. That thing might be dirty too. I think you should just stay away from it."

Several people nodded in agreement, especially Hil and Mira.

Aurielle looked at Sarah, then at the bracelet Edward was holding out to her. A part of her felt that refusing it would be the safer choice.

But another part of her wanted to fight her trauma.

Just like with all the therapy and treatments she had gone through, she knew she had to face it head-on.

And more than that… she didn't want Al to think she blamed him for what happened tonight.

Taking a slow breath, she steeled herself and reached out.

"I think it's fine. My problem isn't dirt—it's my trauma. And besides… this is a gift from my little brother. I should accept it," she said firmly.

Sarah could only shake her head in disbelief, though she didn't want to push too hard on her sister in such a weak state.

She simply gestured, 'Suit yourself.'

Sandra looked worried, while Edward quietly watched, curious to see how Aurielle would react mentally.

Grab.

Aurielle took the bracelet.

And then—

Whoosh!

A gentle breeze suddenly swept across her body.

Cool. Refreshing.

Aurielle's eyes widened. Her long hair fluttered slightly, as if stirred by a passing wind.

The others were startled by the way she suddenly froze with her eyes wide open.

"Aurielle? What happened?" Sandra and Edward asked at the same time.

"Eldest Sister?" Sarah and David called out.

"Young Miss," Hil and Mira said anxiously.

Aurielle lifted her head, about to respond—

At that exact moment, two adult women arrived, carrying elegant medical kits.

Aurielle's doctors.

Everyone felt relieved to see them and immediately asked the two women to check Aurielle's condition.

Aurielle herself still couldn't speak. She was still feeling the strange sensation flowing through her body as the doctors examined her.

She didn't let go of the bracelet. She simply placed it on her lap whenever her hands needed to be checked.

And strangely enough—

"Huh?" one of the doctors murmured after examining Aurielle several times.

"What is it, Doctor? How is Aurielle?" Sandra asked anxiously.

"Well…" the doctor said hesitantly.

She exchanged a glance with her colleague. The two nodded at each other before turning back to the family.

"Miss Aurielle… there's nothing wrong with her condition."

She paused briefly.

"In fact… it's far better than usual."

"Really?" Sandra murmured in disbelief. The same expression appeared on everyone else's faces.

Just moments ago, Aurielle had been vomiting, her body trembling and weak. How could her condition suddenly be considered better than before?

But when they looked closely, Aurielle did seem different.

She looked brighter.

The faint fatigue that usually lingered on her face was completely gone this time. Instead, she looked unusually refreshed.

"They're right," Aurielle said, answering first. "For some reason… I feel much better than usual."

One of the doctors nodded reassuringly.

At that point, no one could really argue anymore. After all, it was good news—something they could all feel relieved about.

Still… it felt incredibly strange.

How could this happen?

Al's earlier words about the metal bracelet echoed in their minds, and their gazes immediately shifted toward the bracelet in Aurielle's hand.

David was far more shocked than the others.

He knew very well that his spell had definitely been neutralized by something.

Until now, he had assumed the effect simply faded because the spell he cast was too weak.

Was it really because of that bracelet?

Was that what canceled my spell… instead of it fading on its own? he wondered.

But that thing… it didn't look like a magic artifact at all. And that kid wasn't a magic user.

Or was I wrong? Could that actually be a magical item?

His eyes sharpened as he stared at the bracelet. Yet the more he tried to sense it, the more it felt like nothing more than a cheap piece of metal.

This is really weird, he thought. But why?

He had no clear answer and could only remain quietly confused.

Seeing everyone's attention focused on the bracelet, one of the doctors—who had also been curious about it for a while—finally leaned closer to take a better look.

Then something caught her eye.

"This is—" she blurted out in shock, quickly covering her mouth.

"Huh? What is it?" Aurielle asked.

The others also turned to look at the doctor, noticing the stunned expression on her face.

The doctor lowered her hand slowly, still staring at the bracelet in Aurielle's palm.

"This engraving… I've seen it before," she said carefully.

"Engraving?" Sarah frowned and leaned slightly closer.

On the inner side of the bracelet, there was a tiny mark.

A faint mark resembling the head and wings of an eagle—perhaps even a phoenix—so small it was almost invisible unless someone looked closely.

The doctor swallowed.

"This… is the mark of the Blackbird Physician."

Silence instantly filled the room.

"…Who?" Sarah asked flatly.

Hil and Mira exchanged confused glances. David narrowed his eyes slightly.

Sandra also looked puzzled.

"The Blackbird… Physician?" she repeated.

Aurielle tilted her head slightly. "I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before… but I can't remember."

The name carried a vague sense of familiarity for everyone present, yet none of them could quite place it.

The second doctor finally stepped forward and spoke.

"That name…" she said calmly, "is rarely spoken of. Even among the elites, very few people know about it."

She glanced at the bracelet again before continuing.

"But among specialists who deal with psychological issues, spiritual imbalance, and traditional energy-based medicine… that name is legendary."

Everyone listened quietly now.

"The Blackbird Physician is said to be a master of those fields," she explained.

"Someone capable of treating illnesses that modern medicine struggles to understand—especially psychological and spiritual disorders."

Sandra blinked in surprise.

"Wait… you mean some kind of traditional healer?"

"Not exactly," the doctor replied.

"Some people call them a healer. Others call them a medical genius. No one really knows who they are. But one thing is certain—they possess medical skills far beyond what ordinary doctors are capable of."

Sarah crossed her arms. "Sounds like some internet myth."

But the first doctor shook her head firmly.

"It's not a myth. There have been real cases."

"If you remember the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Central Celebes Province three years ago…"

"...nearly thousands of people suffered minor injuries, hundreds were severely wounded or in critical condition, and many more were left with deep psychological trauma."

"Reports say that person appeared there. They provided medical and psychological aid for only a single week. And the result…"

She paused for a moment.

"Nearly ninety-five percent of the victims—from those with minor injuries to those in critical condition—received highly effective treatment. And the trauma rate was reduced to an incredibly low level."

She shook her head slightly.

"The rest might simply be the limits of what one person can do. But even then… that achievement was already extraordinary."

"Yup," the other doctor nodded. "In the end, they're still human… not a god."

Sandra's eyes widened. The others reacted the same way, pure awe written across their faces.

Aurielle herself also looked down at the bracelet again.

No one could have imagined that an object belonging to that legendary figure would end up in the hands of a boy who had spent his entire life in an orphanage.
