Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Between Worlds

đź“– Arcana: The Chosen One

Chapter Two: Between Worlds

"If you reject… then you will become a curse in both worlds. Arcana will erase you from memory, and Earth will never remember you existed. But your soul? It will wander—alone, forgotten, powerless—forever."

Meera's breath caught. Her legs trembled beneath her. She tried to clench her fists in defiance—but her hands would not obey. She tried to cry—but no tears came. No voice. No heartbeat. No warmth.

She could not even feel her own pain.

Only thoughts remained.

Why me? Why now? What even am I anymore?

The truth settled in like a cold stone inside her chest: there was no way out.

Her mind wandered into memory—old shadows of a life she had tried so hard to survive. She remembered the harsh winters, sleeping beneath broken rooftops, alone and hungry. Her parents had died when she was just a year old. The streets became her cradle. Strangers passed her like smoke. No one saw her. No one cared.

Until she was six.

An old woman with silver hair and tired eyes found her curled up beside a temple wall. She had brought Meera home, fed her, and whispered stories of forgotten magic. For a while, Meera had known warmth. But last year, even that light faded—the old woman passed quietly in her sleep.

Since then, Meera had felt it again—that void. The deep, aching loneliness.

No one noticed her.

No one would miss her.

Whether she lived or vanished, the world moved on.

And now, in this empty black space, the only voice speaking to her wasn't even human.

"I never mattered to anyone…" she whispered.

"Maybe I'm already forgotten."

There was no answer. Only silence.

She looked at her glowing palm once more—the crescent mark pulsing slowly.

Maybe this was her truth. Maybe she wasn't meant to belong in the world she knew.

With a heart weighed down by grief, Meera finally spoke, her voice steady despite the storm inside her:

"I accept."

A pulse of silver light burst from her chest, and the darkness around her cracked like glass. Light poured through the fractures.

And just before the world shattered—

The voice returned, calm and cold:

"Then your journey begins, Chosen One."

The darkness broke.

Meera found herself standing in a strange glowing field. But instead of mist or trees or monsters, she saw a man—tall, six feet at least, and strangely handsome. He had a calm smile that radiated confidence and something ancient.

"Welcome, Meera," he said gently, "to our new world."

Still disoriented, Meera glanced around. The sky was violet, and two moons floated above her—one pale, the other blood red. The silver grass beneath her feet sparkled under their light.

She turned to the man again. "Who are you?" she asked. "And that deep voice earlier… was that you?"

The man's smile grew wider.

Then he spoke, his voice melodic yet powerful:

"I am the God of Game."

The words were soft, like a lullaby, but carried a weight that felt absolute—undeniable. Meera couldn't explain it, but she knew… no one could disobey him.

Before she could speak again, the god raised a hand and said calmly:

"I know what you want to ask. And I will give you all the answers—in time."

He stepped closer, eyes glowing faintly.

"First, you want to know: Why you? Why are you the Chosen One?

But that answer… I cannot give. Not yet. You will understand when it is time."

Meera's fists tightened—but she stayed quiet.

"Now, let me tell you the truth," he said.

"The place you're entering is not a world. It is a game. But not like the ones you've seen or played. In this one—you are the real character.

And this game… is all about survival."

Suddenly, the space around her pulsed. The ground beneath her feet wavered like water. The sky flickered. The air itself began to change.
