Chapter 36 - Chapter 35 – The Envoy from the Crown

Three days later, a caravan bearing the royal sigil of Orilan arrived at Whispering Hollow.

The envoy was led by Minister Cai Yao, a young but cunning noble closely tied to the court's inner circle—and deeply loyal to Meiyan's father, the king.

Though diplomatic in tone, his presence was sharp, probing.

> "His Majesty sends his regards, Lord Yuncao," Cai said. "And wishes to ensure your… spiritual progress is unhindered."

Qingsai narrowed his eyes. "I didn't request an inspection."

> "Oh, no. This isn't an inspection," Cai smiled. "It's an observation."

Behind the pleasantries, Lucen whispered in Qingsai's ear: "They're here to measure your threat level. Or worse… take control."

That night, Chunsi overheard one of the envoy guards whispering about an order to retrieve an "ancestral relic hidden beneath the keep"—something the court had long sought.

Qingsai's eyes burned with silent fury.

> "They want to use me. Again."

Lianhua placed a hand on his. "Then show them you're not a tool."
