I practically launched myself off the sofa, my voice cracking as I shouted, "Katie! Stop talking!"
Mack Ben froze mid-step, his dark eyes darting between Katie Harriet and me. Then something shifted in his expression, a slow smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he looked directly at me. "Probably since the day she dragged me out of that river."
"Oh my God!" Katie Harriet's eyes went wide, her jaw dropping in theatrical shock. She slowly turned her head toward me like she was witnessing a miracle. "Freya! Did I just hear what I think I heard? You know what? Jasper Tristan might actually be your guardian angel! If you'd been with anyone else for six years, you'd probably be married with kids by now. You never would have been free when Mr. Ben showed up!"
