Mack takes my phone and presses it against his ear. His voice cuts through the silence with razor-sharp precision, carrying an authority that makes my spine straighten involuntarily.
I cannot hear Jasper's words from the other end, but Mack's response leaves no room for negotiation.
"These matters require discussion with my attorney. Handle it through proper channels."
He pauses, and when he speaks again, his tone drops to something far more dangerous.
"Stop contacting my girlfriend. We move in the same circles, Jasper. Show me respect, and I will show you mercy. Push me further, and I promise you will regret it."
My pulse hammers against my throat. Never before have I witnessed Mack issue such a direct threat. The ice in his voice sends shivers down my arms.
Mira's reckless attack tonight has awakened something lethal in him.
The phone returns to my hands, and Mack studies my face with calculating eyes.
