Chapter 65 - Chapter 64: The Song of Deliverance and the Journey to Marah

Then Moses and the people of Israel lifted their voices in song to the LORD, declaring:

"I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted;

the horse and its rider He has cast into the sea.

The LORD is my strength and my song;

He has become my salvation.

This is my God, and I will praise Him,

the God of my fathers, and I will exalt Him.

The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is His name.

Pharaoh's chariots and army He has hurled into the sea.

The finest officers drowned in the Red Sea,

sinking to the depths like a stone.

Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy;

majestic in power, You overthrow those who rise against You.

At the blast of Your nostrils, the waters piled up,

the surging depths stood firm like a wall.

The enemy boasted, 'I will pursue and overtake,

I will divide the spoil, my sword will destroy them.'

But with a breath of Your wind the sea covered them,

and they sank like lead in mighty waters.

Who is like You among the gods, O LORD?

Majestic in holiness, awesome in glory,

working wonders with Your mighty hand!

In Your unfailing love You lead the people You redeemed.

By Your strength You guide them to Your holy dwelling.

The nations will hear and tremble—

Philistia will be seized with anguish,

Edom's leaders will be terrified,

Moab's chiefs will tremble,

and Canaan will melt away in dread.

By the power of Your arm they will be still as stone,

until Your people pass by, O LORD,

the people You have purchased with Your hand.

You will bring them to the mountain of Your inheritance,

the place You have made for Your dwelling, O LORD,

the sanctuary Your hands have established.

The LORD will reign forever and ever."

When Pharaoh's horses, chariots,

and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters back over

them, but Israel walked safely on dry ground.

Then Miriam the prophetess, the

sister of Aaron and Moses, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women followed

her with tambourines and dancing, and she sang to them:

"Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted;

the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea."

Afterward, Moses led Israel from

the Red Sea into the wilderness of Shur. For three days they journeyed

without finding water. When they came to Marah, they found the water

bitter and could not drink it. The people grumbled, asking Moses, "What

are we to drink?"

Moses cried out to the LORD, and

the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the

water became sweet. There the LORD established a decree and tested His

people, saying:

"If you listen carefully to the

voice of the LORD your God, do what is right in His eyes, and keep all

His commands, I will not bring upon you the diseases I brought on the

Egyptians. For I am the LORD, your healer."

Then they came to Elim, where twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees stood, and there they camped by the waters.
