Chapter 102 - Chapter 101: Laws of Bodily Purity

The LORD continued His words to Moses and Aaron, saying…

"Speak to the Israelites and tell them: when a man has a bodily discharge, he is unclean. Whether it flows or is blocked, the discharge brings uncleanness upon him. Any bed he lies on, any seat he takes, all things he touches become unclean. Whoever touches them must wash his clothes and bathe in water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

If the man with the discharge touches another person, that one too must wash and bathe; even a spit from him renders another unclean. Everything beneath him—his seat or anything carried by him—becomes unclean, and any who touch these must cleanse themselves. Clay pots he touches must be broken; wooden articles must be rinsed.

When he is cleansed, he must count seven days, wash his clothes, and bathe with fresh water to become clean. On the eighth day, he shall bring two doves or two young pigeons to the priest at the Tent of Meeting. The priest shall offer them, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering, to make atonement before the LORD for the man.

When a man has an emission of semen, he must bathe entirely, and all touched clothing or leather must be washed. When a man lies with a woman, both are unclean until evening. When a woman has her monthly flow, she is unclean for seven days, and anything she touches—beds, seats—defiles others until they wash and bathe.

If a woman's bleeding continues beyond her period, the uncleanness lasts as long as the discharge, and anyone who touches her or her bed is unclean until evening. When she is cleansed, she counts seven days and brings two doves or young pigeons to the priest on the eighth day. The priest sacrifices one for sin and the other for burnt offering, making atonement before the LORD.

You must keep the Israelites separate from these things that cause uncleanness, so that they do not die in their defilement, for my dwelling is among them."

These are the regulations for men and women with discharges, for those rendered unclean by sexual emissions, and for anyone who lies with a person who is ceremonially unclean.
