Seated cross-legged at the center of the lowest platform was Poseidon. Her palms faced upward in a meditative hand seal. Her eyes were closed.
"Bibi Dong, step forward," Poseidon's voice echoed across the hall.
"Yes."
Bibi Dong frowned imperceptibly. Poseidon's tone sounded like an order. The feeling of taking orders irritated her deeply—like when Spirit Hall's elders used to suppress her. The second-life version of her hated that.
Poseidon rose. Her voice remained deep as the ocean. "Bibi Dong, do you know why you couldn't sense the next three trials after completing the sixth?"
"Trial Seven requires me to retrieve the Seagod's Heart and earn its recognition."
Poseidon nodded gently. She then recounted the tale of the Seagod unifying the oceans and becoming divine. Finally, she gestured toward the black rod-like object.
"That is Lord Seagod's divine weapon—the Seagod Trident."
Bibi Dong looked over at the unremarkable black stick—so this was the weapon that had tormented her past-life self and shattered her twice.
Poseidon explained further. The trident weighed 108,000 jin. Even she found it hard to move. To wield it, one must gain its approval. The key was the Seagod's Heart, long lost on the mainland. She had to find it herself.
"I understand, Senior Poseidon."
