Chapter 7 - The First Step

Ryan woke up with the soft light of dawn streaming through his bedroom window. For a moment, he lay still, savoring the quiet of the morning. Then, as usual, his first thought was to check in with his skill.

"Great Sage," he whispered, a smile tugging at his lips as he sat up in bed. "What's the status on the Glock 45 design?"

The voice of Great Sage responded immediately, her tone calm and efficient. "Master, the design based on your specifications has been completed. The modifications have been implemented. This new design is optimized for performance, durability, and ease of manufacturing. It can be considered the primary choice for a sidearm, with manufacturing costs significantly reduced. However, the design is complex enough that replication without the necessary knowledge would be difficult."

Ryan felt his pulse quicken. This was it—the first tangible step toward his future. The feeling of potential began to surge through him. "That's exactly what I was hoping for," he muttered to himself. "Now, time to make this a reality."

He stood up from the bed, stretching his arms, his mind racing. Great Sage had just given him an incredibly valuable asset. The ability to manufacture a high-performance handgun that could be mass-produced, yet still be difficult to replicate, was the kind of edge he needed in this world. But he needed materials—and he needed a good reason to convince his mother, Martha Wayne, to let him use her workshop at the gun store.

Ryan pondered his options as he walked to the window and gazed out at the calm suburban neighborhood. Gun manufacturing is no easy feat, he thought. How can I make her believe I'm capable of doing this?

After a few moments of deep thought, an idea slowly began to form in his mind. It would require a delicate approach, but Ryan knew it was possible.

He smiled to himself. I've got it.

Before executing his plan, Ryan needed one final check-in with Great Sage.

"Great Sage," Ryan began, feeling a sudden surge of curiosity. "What modifications did you make to the Glock 45 design? Can you give me a list of the improvements?"

"Certainly, Master," Great Sage responded, her voice as neutral and efficient as always. "Here is a summary of the modifications made to the Glock 45 design:

Modifications to the Glock 45 Design:

Material Optimization:

The frame and slide of the handgun have been constructed using a proprietary composite material, which enhances durability while reducing overall weight. The material is resistant to corrosion and wear, extending the lifespan of the firearm without adding excessive weight. This also makes the weapon easier to handle, especially in prolonged use.

Ergonomics:

The grip has been redesigned for better ergonomics. The texture has been enhanced to improve handling and comfort, even in sweaty or wet conditions. The palm swell has been adjusted for various hand sizes, allowing for a more comfortable and stable grip.

Firing Mechanism:

The recoil system has been optimized, reducing the amount of felt recoil without compromising the weapon's firepower. The spring tension has been carefully calibrated, ensuring smooth operation and reducing the risk of malfunctions, especially during rapid firing.

Trigger Mechanism:

The trigger pull has been refined to offer a smoother, lighter feel with a cleaner break, reducing the potential for user-induced errors. The reset mechanism has also been improved, making it faster and more precise, which is crucial for accuracy and speed during rapid engagements.

Accuracy Enhancements:

A new, precision-engineered barrel has been incorporated, which enhances the firearm's accuracy by reducing barrel wobble and improving the alignment of the shot. The rifling has been fine-tuned for a more consistent spin on the bullet, contributing to better accuracy and tighter shot groupings.

Modular Accessories Compatibility:

The frame design now allows for easier installation of suppressors, lasers, and lights without compromising the weapon's balance. A standard Picatinny rail has been added to the front of the frame for attaching accessories, making the Glock 45 more versatile in various tactical scenarios.

Cost-Effective Manufacturing:

To reduce manufacturing costs, several components have been simplified and optimized for mass production. The complex parts have been replaced with modular components that can be easily replaced or upgraded, increasing the versatility and ease of repair.

Safety Features:

Additional safety mechanisms have been integrated to ensure accidental discharges are prevented. These include an upgraded trigger safety, as well as a redesigned firing pin safety. These features can be easily disengaged when the user is ready to fire, but they also help to prevent negligent discharges, making the weapon safer for civilian and law enforcement use.

Stealth and Concealment:

The design includes features that make the weapon easier to conceal and less noticeable, which can be crucial in certain scenarios. The slide has been refined to be slightly slimmer, and the overall profile is more streamlined, allowing for more discreet carrying in holsters.

Durability Under Harsh Conditions:

The overall construction of the firearm has been tested and refined to ensure it remains operational under extreme weather conditions—whether in rain, snow, or extreme heat. The materials used are resistant to environmental stress, ensuring longevity and performance no matter the environment.

"These modifications make the Glock 45 more efficient and adaptable to various environments, all while reducing production costs. The resulting firearm can be manufactured quickly and affordably but would be difficult for untrained manufacturers to replicate."

Ryan absorbed the information, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. With these improvements, he was confident that the Glock 45 would be a game-changer in the world he now inhabited.

"Thank you, Great Sage," Ryan said, his voice filled with gratitude. "Now, I need to come up with a plan to convince my mom to let me use the materials in her shop."

"As you wish, Master," Great Sage replied. "Would you like assistance in formulating a strategy?"

Ryan smiled. "I've got it covered. I just need to think it through."

With the modifications in mind, Ryan headed downstairs. The house was quiet, but the smell of something delicious—probably breakfast—wafted through the air. He could hear the sound of his mother moving around in the kitchen, probably preparing a simple meal to start the day.

He took a deep breath before knocking lightly on the kitchen doorframe. "Hey, Mom," he called, walking into the room with his usual easy smile. "I need to talk to you about something."

Martha Wayne looked up from the stove, her face breaking into a warm smile. "Morning, kiddo. What's up?"

Ryan walked over to the counter, leaning casually against it. "Well, I've been thinking… I've got a project I'd like to work on. Something that could help with the store, and maybe even make a little extra money."

She raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "What kind of project are you talking about?"

Ryan hesitated for a moment, then decided to approach it in a straightforward way. "Well, I've been learning a lot about guns and gun manufacturing. And I think I can improve on the designs we sell here. Specifically, I've got an idea to build a custom handgun—a Glock 45 with some modifications that could make it a lot more efficient and cost-effective to manufacture. I'd need to use the materials in the workshop, but I think it could be a big help."

Martha frowned slightly, but she was listening. "You know it's not that simple, right? Manufacturing firearms isn't just about putting parts together. There's a lot of legalities and safety concerns involved. Plus, you're just a kid, Ryan."

Ryan nodded, understanding her concern. "I know, Mom. But I've been studying a lot, and I have this… skill. It helps me understand things in a way that I can't quite explain. I've done the design myself, and I'm confident it's something that could make a difference."

Martha eyed him for a moment, her expression softening as she studied his face. She could see the sincerity in his eyes, the same intensity that she had seen in him ever since he was a little boy.

"Alright," she said, her voice cautious but willing to give him a chance. "But if we're going to do this, it has to be safe. You understand the responsibility, right?"

Ryan nodded eagerly. "Of course, Mom. I've thought this through. I'm not going to do anything reckless."

Martha sighed, a mix of concern and pride in her voice. "Alright. I'll let you use the workshop. But we're going to do this the right way, and I'm going to supervise."

Ryan's heart swelled with gratitude. "Thanks, Mom. I won't let you down."

She smiled softly, ruffling his hair. "You better not. But I've got faith in you."

As she turned back to finish cooking breakfast, Ryan felt a rush of excitement. The first step to making money is done, he thought. Now, it's time to get to work.

Then, a thought crossed his mind. I've got an idea… He smiled to himself, knowing that he was about to make things happen.
