Seeing the women on the bed unable to move, Shikamaru smirked with satisfaction. His gaze then turned cold as he muttered, "Hmph, Jugo, Karin, Guren, and that woman who harmed Yakumo... just you wait. I'm coming for you..."
Having harmed his women, Shikamaru had no intention of letting them off easily. With a flicker of movement, he first appeared before Jugo, only to find the man still rampaging wildly. For over a day and night, Jugo had continued his destructive rampage without tiring.
"Shadow Ninja Art - Shadow Wood Technique!" Shikamaru roared. The colossal trees of the Demon Forest immediately responded to his command, their massive branches coiling tightly around Jugo.
"Roar~ Roar~" Jugo roared, struggling to break free. Shikamaru wouldn't allow it. "Shadow Ninja Art - Life Absorption Technique!" he declared coldly.
As Shikamaru spoke, a startling phenomenon occurred. A translucent white energy began flowing ceaselessly from Jugo's body into the massive tree branches, while Jugo screamed in agony.
"Hmph~ Let's see if you can reach that legendary State Three in your final moments, when your life force is completely drained!" Shikamaru sneered, folding his arms with detached amusement. After all, collecting shadows was best done when they were at their strongest!
On the other side of the Demon Forest, Karin, Guren, and Sasame were all panting heavily, surrounded by scattered, broken branches.
"Sister Karin! What do we do? We can see the edge of the forest, but we still can't get out!" Sasame asked anxiously.
"Let's rest for a moment. We'll be out soon," Karin replied calmly, though her heart pounded with urgency. The closer they got to the forest's edge, the more fiercely the trees obstructed their path.
"Okay!" Sasame agreed, sitting down beside Karin to rest. As long as they didn't provoke the strange trees, the trees wouldn't attack them. Guren immediately sat down to rest as well.
"Right! Karin! How's Jugo doing?" Guren asked.
"Let me check..." Karin closed her eyes to sense Jugo's presence. Sensing required mental energy, so she couldn't maintain a wide-ranging perception indefinitely.
When Karin opened her eyes, the eyes beneath her glasses were wide with terror.
"What's wrong, Sister Karin?" Sasame asked anxiously, noticing Karin's pale face.
"We have to go... now!" Karin stood up abruptly, her voice urgent. "That man has reappeared, and Jugo is dying!"
Huff, huff... Sasame and Guren also scrambled to their feet, startled. "Is it those three identical men again?" Sasame asked.
"No! It's just one person, but his aura is exactly the same, and..." Karin hesitated, then continued, "and he's countless times stronger than those three..."
Upon learning that Shikamaru himself had arrived, the three women immediately resumed their desperate escape from the Demon Forest. Karin, Sasame, and Guren now bitterly regretted ever provoking Konoha. The village's power was far beyond anything they could withstand.
ROAR! A deafening beastly roar echoed through the entire Demon Forest. Karin froze, her senses immediately expanding outward. "Ah... Ju... Jugo has entered State Three..."
Shikamaru glanced back at Jugo. At the very moment Jugo's last sliver of life force was being drained, the threat of death finally forced him into State Three! His entire body instantly transformed into a monstrous, swollen, and colossal form.
"Tsk tsk! Just as I expected, he's finally reached State Three..." Shikamaru smirked, his eyes narrowed. Too late. Jugo's life force was nearly depleted; even this transformation would be futile.
"Shadow Ninja Art - Life Absorption Technique!" Shikamaru declared coldly. The giant trees Jugo had broken free from re-entwined around him, their numbers multiplying to match his monstrous size.
"ROAR~!" A deafening roar erupted from Jugo's throat. The giant trees constricting him shattered instantly under the force of his massive, monstrous body.
But Shikamaru's objective had been achieved. Jugo's life force had been reduced to its final thread. His colossal form began to shrink rapidly amidst his anguished roars, collapsing back into his original human shape on the ground.
"Shadow Ninja Art - Shadow Deprivation!"
The Shadow Eye materialized in Shikamaru's gaze. Silently chanting the technique, the shadow beneath his feet surged forward, seizing Jugo's shadow. With a swift motion, Shikamaru severed the connection, drawing Jugo's shadow into his own body.
Shikamaru once again activates the trees of the Demon Forest, absorbing the last of Jugo's life force. This energy, combined with what he had already gathered, flowed through a tree trunk and into his body.
"Heh! Karin, you won't be escaping either!" Shikamaru chuckled softly. The influx of life force invigorated both his mind and body. With this power, he realized, growing old and dying of natural causes would be nearly impossible.
"Shadow Ninja Art - Shadow Transformation!"
With a low growl, Shikamaru's form dissolved into a dark shadow, merging seamlessly with the vast darkness of the Demon Forest. In a flash, he reappeared at the forest's edge.
The first thing Shikamaru saw was Guren, relentlessly using her Crystal Release to destroy the trees blocking their escape. Next was Karin, her vibrant red hair shining brilliantly. Finally, he recognized the woman who had harmed Yakumo, a ninja from the Fuma Clan with orange-red hair. After a moment of scrutiny, he remembered her: Arashi's sister, whose brother had once served as Orochimaru's body double.
"Still trying to run?" Shikamaru's cool voice echoed through the forest. The three women whirled around in shock, only to find him standing behind them with a mocking grin.
"Who exactly are you?" Karin demanded coldly.
"Who am I? Heh..." Shikamaru chuckled softly. "Didn't you come here to avenge Orochimaru?"
"Y-you're the Shadow Lord of Konoha..." Karin stammered, unable to believe it. Gazing at Shikamaru's young and handsome face, she couldn't possibly associate the legendary figure with the man before her.
Although she knew Shikamaru's profile and that he was only fifteen, people often imagined someone so powerful at that age as a monster. He certainly didn't look like the handsome young man standing before her!
Guren Sasame also stared at Shikamaru in astonishment, her small mouth agape in an utterly adorable expression.
"What? Didn't expect me to be so handsome?" Shikamaru teased, accustomed to such reactions.
"Hmph!" Karin's fair cheeks flushed red as Shikamaru's words hit home. She let out a delicate snort, inwardly admitting defeat. Their revenge mission had barely begun when they encountered Shikamaru. With Suigetsu and Jugo, their strongest fighters, already dead, what chance did they have against him?
"You must realize there's no escape, right? I'll give you two choices," Shikamaru said slowly. "First, continue to oppose me, and I'll kill you all."
"Hmph! There are three of us. Don't get cocky!" Guren scoffed. Unlike Karin, she couldn't sense the full extent of Shikamaru's power.
"Heh! Is that so? Then let me tell you about the second path I'm offering," Shikamaru chuckled.
"The second path is to pledge loyalty to you, Shikamaru-sama, isn't it? I accept it!" Karin declared before Shikamaru could even speak, immediately dropping to one knee before him.
The clever Karin had naturally guessed Shikamaru's intentions. If he had wanted to kill them, he could have done so effortlessly. Why waste time talking? Moreover, Karin wasn't particularly eager to avenge Orochimaru. On the contrary, she admired powerful figures like Shikamaru and made her choice instantly.
"Ah... Sister Karin!" "Karin!" Sasame exclaimed in shock, never expecting Karin to surrender so quickly.
"Shikamaru-sama! I also pledge my loyalty!" Guren gritted her teeth and knelt, fully aware of Karin's abilities. Her instant surrender could only mean that Shikamaru was overwhelmingly powerful.
"Sister Guren!" Sasame cried out again, despair creeping across her face. She glared angrily at Shikamaru.
"I won't surrender! I'll avenge Brother Arashi!" Sasame spat coldly. Her cousin Arashi had been reduced to ashes when Shikamaru destroyed the Sound Village.
Sasame swiftly formed hand seals. A thin strand of chakra shot from her heart, piercing effortlessly into Shikamaru's body under the three girls' disbelieving eyes...
