Chapter 4 - Cyrus

I am wrapped up in a warm and comfortable blanket. The room is bright with light. The silhouette of a woman, gently falls over me and for some reason, I giggle and kick my feet after seeing her. I cannot see her face clearly but I am sure that I am related to her. She hums softly as she picks me up and twirls around with me in her arms. Suddenly, the lights go out and I hear screams of agony and fright outside. The woman holds me to her chest and sprints towards a small closed door. "There she goes! Get them for me!" A deep voice echoes, followed by growls and snarls as three wolves come after us.

I feel fear reeking off the woman and I start to whimper. The woman is running and by the time I can finally notice my surroundings, we are in the woods. Still everything is not so clear. She runs to a secluded place and puts me on the ground.

"Don't cry, my baby. Always remember that mommy and daddy loves you very much." Droplets of what feels like tears fall on my face and I scrunch up my face. She puts a necklace around my neck. She reluctantly stands up and runs away.

"There she is! Kill her!" That same voice orders and all I hear is the heavy thumping of feet heading towards one direction. I burst into tears, feeling helpless. "Cyrus? Cyrus, my son!" A man's voice fills my ears after a moment of silence. Soon, I find myself in a warm embrace. "Cyrus, my boy, always know who you are. You are a -"

The loud shrill cry of my alarm jerked me out of my dream. The hell. The man was about to tell me who I was. I unconsciously let out a growl and grabbed the annoying alarm, throwing it up against the wall. Silence. I fell back on my bed only to have my door yanked open by my younger brother, Xavier. Xavier was a brown haired, blue eyed and tall young guy with tan skin - they were all tan skinned. I, on the other hand, was white skinned. He was handsome but looked nothing like me. I growled, frustrated. "Cyrus, it's morning, you will be late for work", he nonchalantly spoke, ignoring the fact that I let out an animalistic growl when he entered. I needed to check what was wrong with me. Ever since I turned eighteen six years ago, I have been behaving weirdly. I growl like an animal, my vision is exceptionally very good, my sense of smell has heightened, I have grown more muscles so I have the body of a body builder without working out often, my nails elongate, my canine teeth too and my eyes glow a shade of yellow or red, provided I am excited or angry respectively.

Huffing, I got up and entered my bathroom. I got ready in my three piece suit, expensive watch and matching shoes. I walked down the stairs to the dining room, where the family was. "Well look who decided to grace us with his honourable presence, our greatest King Cyrus", Dad spoke sarcastically. Mom, Xavier and Aelia chuckled while I glared at him playfully. I looked at my little sister and kissed her forehead. Aelia had long brown hair, bluish green eyes, pointed nose, heart shaped red lips and she was a bit chubby. She was curvaceous but short compared to all of us and while she was insecure about it, I loved it. She was cute that way.

Aelia and l's relationship was different in so many ways. I liked her more than a sister. I loved to kiss her head, wash her hair, dress her hair, take her out and spoil her. I treated her like my girlfriend but I made it look like an innocent gesture from a big brother to his little and only sister. Aelia loved me so much that she even loved to wear my clothes. She sometimes shared my bed and since I liked her, I was more than happy to make room for her in my bed. I'm a bastard? I know that!

"Good morning", I greeted while I settled between my baby sister and Xavier. Both of them were fraternal twins. Xavier was only older than Aelia by three hours. I was the only one with jet black hair and hazel eyes in the family and everytime I asked why, dad would show me a picture of my great grandfather. It was a solid reason to dissolve my doubts but somehow, I still felt like the odd one here. Although I didn't resemble both of them, we were still siblings and many a times, I found myself hating that. While growing up, I might have developed a crush on my supposedly baby sister. Aelia and l were blood related so it was a taboo to have feelings for her plus, I was her favorite brother. Although she was close to Xavier, I was her favorite because I pampered and spoiled her more. Our parents, especially our dad, didn't really like that Aelia was close to me for some reason.

As soon as we were done with breakfast, Aelia grabbed her bag and literally bolted for the door only for her to trip over her foot. She was in my arms before she could kiss the ground. She looked into my eyes with her shock filled ones. "Where are you off to in a rush, buttercup?" I asked teasingly while helping her up. "I have to meet Clarissa before school starts. She told me that she had something to tell me." She ranted. Twirling around, her hair hit my face and I unconsciously purred in satisfaction as the fragrance of vanilla and lilies invaded my senses.

"Xavier, you are going to be late for school. Let's go", I said when I turned to him, who was busy stuffing his mouth with pancakes. He nodded and stood up. The three of us walked to a car. We were wealthy. We had cars, Dad was the owner of a multi-billion company that managed hotels all over the world. I was the principal of the high school Xavier and Aelia attended, Greenwood High School. We sat in the car and Uncle Sam, one of the drivers took us to school. Aelia sat beside Uncle Sam while Xavier and I sat in the back. Aelia was quiet during the journey unlike Xavier and I, who talked about the upcoming football tournament. By the time we realized, we were in the school premises.

The three of us got out of the car after thanking Uncle Sam like we normally did. "Aelia!" Clarissa, Aelia's best friend squealed when she saw her. Aelia's eyes sparkled. Clarissa ran up to us and threw her arms around Aelia. "Hello!" She waved at Xavier and I, her eyes, filled with longing, happiness and a bit of sadness as her eyes lingered on Xavier for what felt like an hour. Xavier glared at her and looked away. Xavier and stupidity were definitely life partners, I swear. A girl boldly walks up to you, confesses her love for you through a letter and all you do is insult her by letting someone read it out in the presence of the whole school. I mean you could have just taken her to a secluded place and explained to her that you were not interested like a matured, sensible human being. Aelia didn't talk to her brother for an entire semester.

"It's almost time for class, let's go", Aelia said as she dragged Clarissa into the school. Aelia and Clarissa were both Fashion students while Xavier was a medical student. "You're an asshole", I grumbled, glaring at him. Xavier sighed and scratched the back of his head. "I know, man", he agreed. "But prior to the time she brought the letter, she asked me out and I said no twice. It's not my fault that she got heartbroken in the end". Xavier tried to justify his actions. I shook my head and took the lead to my office, leaving the asshole behind.

"Good morning, Mrs. Gernburg." I greeted my secretary on my way into my office. "Good morning, Mr. Jackson." She responded. Mrs. Gernburg was older than me by ten years. Red hair, amber eyes, pointed nose and red lips. She was a nice woman and I respected her a lot because of her dedication towards her work and respect towards me.

"Sir, last night, Mr. Fox sent me his resignation letter, with the reason that he had an urgent matter to address outside the country so he isn't sure when he would return." Mrs Gernburg informed me. "Which course was he taking while he was here?" I asked. "History. He took Grade 12, both A and B." She replied.

"I will be their substitute teacher for the rest of the semester." I said and took the timetable. Looking at it, I realized that, Mr. Fox was supposed to have class with Grade 12 A in two hours. Huffing, I entered my office. What a great way to start a day!
