Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Settling In

"Ding! Host, time is limited. Please make your choice quickly!"

"「One」 Become a Muggle..."

"「Two」 Possess the power of an Obscurus..."

Seeing that Qin Yu hadn't responded for a while, the system repeated its previous message.

After some thought, Qin Yu chose the second option.

Money was, of course, a good thing, but the allure of magic was something that money—even ten million pounds—simply couldn't compare to.

In his memory, the Obscurus had appeared in the Harry Potter spin-off film, *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them*, but it was never mentioned during Harry Potter's time.

The creation of this dangerous power stemmed from the twisted psyches of young wizards who were oppressed by Muggles in earlier times. Once the Wizarding and Muggle worlds were orderly separated, the environment for young wizards to grow up in improved greatly, and the soil for the birth of an Obscurus was lost... thus, it was virtually extinct by Harry Potter's era, making its absence from the narrative understandable.

Because this power was immense and prone to losing control, Obscurials who possessed it rarely lived long.

However, since the system said it could guide him in eliminating the negative effects of the Obscurus, he might as well take a plunge into this magical world... Otherwise, being an ordinary, wealthy Muggle would be a complete waste of a transmigration, wouldn't it?

"Ding! Host has completed the initial selection. System binding initiated! 3, 2, 1! Binding successful!"

As the system's voice faded, Qin Yu suddenly felt an indescribable power slowly welling up from within his body.

It was a power that felt both formidable and perilous.

From that moment on, Qin Yu became a wizard who possessed the power of an Obscurus.

The thought filled him with a thrill of joy and excitement.

...

A moment ago, when little Hermione saw Qin Yu suddenly "acting foolish," she had hurried downstairs to seek help from her parents.

After coming upstairs, Hermione's father had Qin Yu lie down immediately and gave him a check-up.

Although Mr. Granger was a dentist, he still had some knowledge of common neurological responses.

He shone a penlight, commonly used by surgeons, into Qin Yu's eyes to check his pupil reaction, then felt his forehead and asked Qin Yu how he was feeling.

Qin Yu was fully cooperative throughout the process. After all, this Mr. Granger was Hermione's father and clearly a very kind and warm-hearted person.

After completing the examination, Mr. Granger said in a relaxed tone, "Everything about you is perfectly normal... well, except that you're a bit hungry."

As he spoke, Qin Yu's stomach let out a loud growl.

The scene prompted a "giggle-giggle" laugh from little Hermione. She smiled at Qin Yu and said, "I'll go get you my favorite cookies. I'm sure you'll love them!"

With that, the little girl pattered downstairs to rummage through her cookie tin, returning shortly after with the cookies.

"Here, you can have all of them!" little Hermione said with great magnanimity, though with a hint of reluctance.

Qin Yu was indeed hungry. He took the box of cookies, said his thanks, and began to eat them with a crunch.

Mrs. Granger had, at some point, gone downstairs and returned with a glass of milk, which she handed to Qin Yu, saving him from choking as he wolfed down the food.

Watching Qin Yu eat several cookies, his pace finally slowing, Mr. Granger asked in a gentle voice, "Little boy, what's your name? And where do you live?"

Hearing the question, Qin Yu thought for a moment and said, "I only remember my name is Qin Yu. As for where I live, I can't quite recall!"

He put on a pitiful expression as he spoke.

He had no choice. He was an undocumented person in this world; he couldn't possibly name a home address.

Seeing Qin Yu's sad face, Mrs. Granger's heart immediately filled with sympathy...

She then said to her husband with some concern, "Do you think little Qin Yu has amnesia? Should we take him to the hospital to have Dr. Allen check if there's any hidden damage to his brain?"

"Yes, I was about to suggest that myself," Mr. Granger said. He paused, then turned back to Qin Yu. "I forgot to introduce myself earlier. My name is David Granger, this is my wife, Jane Granger, and standing beside me is my daughter, Hermione. I was the one who accidentally hit you with the car on the road that day. I'm truly sorry. I will make an appointment with a specialist neurologist to give you a full examination. If there are any problems, I will certainly take responsibility."

Qin Yu quickly waved his hands. "It's alright. I think I must have suddenly run onto the road to have been hit. I'm fine now, I'll probably remember everything after a few days' rest."

Qin Yu couldn't help but sigh internally at his rotten luck, getting hit by vehicles one after another. What a tragic life. But then a new thought struck him: *Now I have magic. Let's see who dares to hit me again!*

"Since you can't remember where your home is for now, you can stay with us. We'll help you look for your family," Mrs. Granger said gently.

She had actually taken a great liking to this little boy with an Eastern face... and she had always wanted another child, a son. Qin Yu's appearance made Mrs. Granger feel that this must be God's plan... or, as Eastern people would say, "fate."

...

After talking with Qin Yu and seeing that he was in good condition, the Grangers were much more relieved and went downstairs together.

Hermione, however, stayed behind. She had too many questions about this boy.

After her parents had left, little Hermione stared at Qin Yu and asked, "How old are you? You look about my age. How did you know my name just now? Do you go to my school too? How come I've never seen you before?"

"There aren't many schools around here, and I don't think I've ever seen you... Never mind, it's not like I have time to pay attention to other people anyway..."

Having said all this to herself, her voice trailed off at the end, her expression turning a little gloomy. It was clear that her life at school was not going very well.

"Age is just a number. As for school? I've forgotten where I went. But even though I've lost some of my memories, I haven't forgotten the knowledge I've learned. I bet you I know just as much as you do!"

Qin Yu blinked at the cute girl, avoiding all of Hermione's previous questions, as explaining would only make things more complicated.

Hermione looked into Qin Yu's eyes and said haughtily, "Is that so? We can have a competition sometime!"

*This little girl's competitive streak has been strong since she was a child,* Qin Yu thought to himself.

Still, he had successfully changed the subject.

...

And so, Qin Yu began living at the Granger's house.

The very next day, Mr. Granger took Qin Yu to see Dr. Allen for an examination. The results were, of course, perfectly fine. As for recovering his memory, they could only let nature take its course.

After he had stayed for a few days, the Grangers showed no intention of asking Qin Yu to leave, nor did they inquire too much about his past.

They found that with Qin Yu around, Hermione talked and smiled more than before, which was something that made them happy and relieved.

In truth, for the first few days, Hermione was still a bit wary of Qin Yu. She felt that this little boy was far from simple.

He not only knew a lot but was also very good at keeping her parents happy.

But something that happened today changed her opinion of him.

As she was walking out of school, her classmates had once again stuck a note on her back. It read "Know-it-all" and "Shut up."

Qin Yu, having nothing to do at home, had gone out for a walk and happened to pass by Hermione's school... He saw Hermione running out of the school crying and saw the note stuck to her back.

"Who did this?" Qin Yu asked with a frown, tearing the note off.

Hermione looked tearfully toward a few girls at the school gate, who were still sticking their tongues out and making faces in her direction.

Qin Yu felt that although he was in a child's body, he still had the mentality of an adult. A grown man shouldn't stoop to the level of little brats.

But seeing the tears on little Hermione's cheeks and then looking at the girls mocking her, a nameless anger suddenly surged within him, rising hot and fast!

He asked Hermione, "If you could do something to them right now, what would you do?"

Hermione said offhandedly, "Make them hang from that tree over there, unable to get down!"

Qin Yu nodded. The wish wasn't too excessive.

An impulse moved within him. With a single glance, the group of students was lifted off the ground, their clothes catching on the branches of the large tree beside them.

Caught in this sudden predicament, the girls began to shriek in terror
