Chapter 58 - Ch: 58

"Excellent... Yes, keep coming. Closer, closer, Gumory Comet."

Night had fallen. While the palace slept, Paragus stood alone on the balcony, his eyes fixed on the celestial movements. The radar his scientists had constructed hummed with certainty: the comet was on a direct collision course with this planet. His vengeance was finally within reach.

"Heh... heh heh... A-hahahaha! HAHAHAHAHA! WAAAA-HAHAHAHA!"

The weight of decades of planning and bitterness erupted in a fit of manic laughter. It began as a jagged, hateful sound and dissolved into a hysterical, tearful cackle of triumph.

Nearby, Moa, one of his loyal subordinates, shivered at the sound.

"M-Master Paragus...?"

Moa feared the worst. Was his master planning to erase them all along with the Prince? Paragus sensed the doubt and turned toward him, his boots clicking softly on the stone floor.

"Moa, do not trouble yourself," Paragus said, his voice dropping to a soothing, paternal tone. "You won't have to experience any of that terror."

Moa breathed a sigh of relief. He felt a wave of gratitude; Master Paragus truly did care for his men. The comet would only bury that arrogant fool Vegeta, his son, and their friends.

"Thank you, Sire! Even when we migrate to Earth, I will work my hardest for—"

Paragus raised his hand. The palm glowed with a sudden, lethal light.

"Don't... make... a mistake."

"Wait—GAAAAAHHHH!!"

A single ki blast illuminated the night, followed by a brief, choked scream. A life flickered out and vanished into the darkness of the palace grounds. Not a single soul noticed.

Vegeta was in a foul mood.

The trip to Planet Totokama had been a waste of time. There was no sign of the Legendary Super Saiyan—just ruins and silence. Paragus claimed his scouts were searching frantically, but Vegeta was done waiting for reports that led nowhere. He decided he would search the galaxy himself.

Paragus, understandably, panicked. If Vegeta left now, the entire plan to kill him with the comet was ruined.

"King Vegeta! One more day! I beg of you, wait until tomorrow!" Paragus pleaded. "By morning, we will surely have his location!"

"That won't be necessary."

A girl's voice cut through the air, sharp and resonant. Vegeta and Paragus turned to see a young woman in white standing atop a nearby pillar. Her dress was the same divine attire she usually wore, though she had shed her weighted gear in anticipation of a crisis.

Beside her stood Piccolo and Trunks, their eyes fixed on Paragus with unmistakable hostility.

"The Goddess of Earth...!"

"Paragus, why don't you just tell him the truth?" Lisette asked, her eyes narrowing. "Tell him that Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan."

Vegeta froze. He looked from Lisette to Paragus, and then finally to the silent youth standing behind them.

"T-That is preposterous!" Paragus stammered. "Broly is my son! His power is far below my own! How could he be the legend? King Vegeta, please, let us return to the palace—"

"It's all a lie!" Trunks shouted, stepping forward. "Everything Paragus has told us is a fabrication! This 'empire' is nothing but a graveyard of ruins!"

Even for Vegeta, the choice of who to trust was simple. The look he leveled at Paragus was pure, concentrated venom.

"You played me, Paragus."

"...I see. Even a brainless monkey like you eventually catches on."

Paragus abandoned his submissive act. He straightened his back, a mocking smirk playing on his lips as he turned away from Vegeta.

"I used this star because I knew it was doomed. My target was always the Northern Galaxy—specifically, Earth! Hahahaha!"

He turned back, pointing a finger at Vegeta with a flair for the dramatic.

"My plan was to move to the garden world of Earth and build my empire there. I couldn't allow it to become a battlefield, so I lured you here to die in the impact. To see you actually believe you were the King of a new Vegeta... it was the greatest comedy of my life."

He walked over to Broly, spreading his arms wide. He felt invincible. He had no idea his plan had already been dismantled from the shadows.

"Once you are dead, there is no one left to stop us! The North, the East, the West—the entire universe will bow before the empire of Paragus and Broly! Forever! Now, Broly! KILL THEM!"

Paragus triggered the command. But Broly didn't move. Instead, the control gauntlet on Paragus's wrist shattered in a shower of sparks.

"What!? My device! Without it, Broly will—"

Paragus turned toward Lisette, his face pale with fury—until he saw what she was holding. Resting in her hand was a control device identical to his own, but with a far more sophisticated design.

"Don't worry," Lisette said calmly. "I have a better model."

She looked at the silent youth. "Broly! Restrain Paragus!"

"Yes."

The device in Lisette's hand glowed. Broly moved instantly, locking his father in a crushing full nelson. Paragus gasped, cold sweat pouring down his face as he realized his son was no longer his to command.

"How... Broly, what are you doing!?"

"I recruited the scientist who designed your toys," Lisette explained. "Bulma and he collaborated to build this. You've lost, Paragus."

It was a total victory without a single punch being thrown. Trunks let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. Lisette had done it. She had neutralized the devil without a war. The future was saved.

But Vegeta was not smiling.

"Tch... useless tricks! I don't need a leash to kill a legend! I'll butcher him with my own hands!"

Suddenly, Vegeta's eyes flashed a murderous red. A dark, oily aura wreathed his body. Lisette recognized it instantly—the same demonic interference that had plagued them before.

Before she could scream a warning, Vegeta moved. He didn't attack Broly—he fired a point-blank ki blast at the ring on Broly's forehead.

Shatter.

"——!!? Vegeta! What have you done!?"

Lisette's voice was shrill with alarm. But her eyes weren't on Vegeta. She looked toward the distant horizon and saw a flicker of a female demon. Towa offered a playful, mocking wave before vanishing into the shadows.

Vegeta remained with his arms crossed, completely unaware that he had been a puppet. "I've destroyed your toys. I don't need help to kill a Saiyan!"

"You idiot!" Lisette shouted. "We had it! We had him! And now—"

"Shut up, coward! This is the Saiyan way!"

Lisette realized she had failed. She had understood Vegeta's fragile ego, but she had underestimated the demons' reach. She had should have knocked Vegeta out the moment they landed.

The air around Broly changed. The silence of the palace was replaced by a low, vibrating hum of pure, concentrated malice. Trunks and Piccolo backed away, their faces pale.

"Goku! Goku, can you hear me!?" Lisette broadcasted her voice back to Earth. "The plan has failed! Bring everyone! NOW!"

A second later, Goku appeared via Instant Transmission, bringing Turles, Gohan, and a newly powered-up Nappa with him.

"Whoa... what a ki," Goku muttered, his golden hair flickering.

"Kakarottooo...!"

Broly ignored the rest of the warriors. His gaze locked onto Goku, and he began to walk forward. Vegeta, seeing his "quarry" ignoring him, snarled in rage and launched a flying kick at Broly's neck.

The strike hit with the full force of a Super Saiyan—and Broly didn't even flinch. He didn't parry. He didn't block. He simply continued walking, the impact of Vegeta's boot having as much effect as a falling leaf.

"W-What!? HAAAA!"

Vegeta fired a point-blank blast into Broly's face. The explosion threw Paragus back, but when the smoke cleared, Broly was still walking. He didn't even look at Vegeta. He didn't recognize Vegeta as an enemy; he didn't even recognize him as a presence. The gap in power was so vast that Broly didn't even register that he was being attacked.

Vegeta's spirit shattered. He fell to his knees, his golden hair turning back to black as his will to fight evaporated.

"KAA-KAA-ROTTOOOOOO!!"

Broly's scream tore the sky apart. A golden radiance erupted from his body, expanding until it blotted out the sun. Rage, bloodlust, and raw, tectonic power flooded the area. The chains were gone. The beast was free.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"

Broly changed.

His muscles swelled to grotesque proportions, his frame nearly doubling in size. His eyes turned a terrifying, pupilless white. His black hair snapped into a jagged, golden crown, and arcs of green electricity danced across his skin. He stood amidst a massive crater of his own making.

"Heh... heh heh... HAHAHAHAHA!!"

The monster didn't need a reason to destroy. He was born for it. People, trees, planets, galaxies—to him, it was all just fuel for his laughter. He was the personification of violence.

"Huff... huff... the legend..." Vegeta whispered, trembling. "He's going to kill us... we're all going to die...!"

The prince who had claimed he could handle it alone was gone. In his place was a broken man who finally understood the absolute, crushing reality of the Legendary Super Saiyan.

Paragus watched his son with a look of hollow despair. "Vegeta is the only one who truly understands. Now that Broly has lost his mind, it's over. The galaxy is finished."

Broly pointed a massive finger at Goku. "Kakarot. You're the first to the blood-altar."

He lunged with a speed that defied his massive bulk. Goku, having mastered the Full Power Super Saiyan form, barely evaded the initial strike and took the fight to the sky. Turles, Piccolo, Nappa, Trunks, Gohan, and Lisette all followed, surrounding the titan.

On the ground, Vegeta remained huddled in the dirt, shivering in the shadow of the legend.
