Chapter Fifty-One: The Past They Buried
Isabelle looked up, she didn't expect company this early besides Reign.
Violet rushed inside first. "You're alive!" she gasped and hurried over.
Before Isabelle could respond, she was pulled into a soft, tight hug.
"Ow," Isabelle whispered with a laugh. "Easy, I'm still fragile, apparently."
Violet pulled back, eyes shiny. "I'm sorry! I was so scared. They wouldn't let me see you earlier, and Maxx kept saying you were fine, but I didn't trust him."
Maxx followed behind, holding a paper coffee cup. "I'm insulted," he said. "But accurate."
Isabelle smiled faintly, heart started warming. "I'm glad you both came."
Maxx handed her the coffee. "Decaf, sadly. Doctor's orders."
She took it. "I'll survive."
Violet sat on the edge of the bed while Maxx leaned against the window. The room finally felt light again, like the air wasn't trying to choke her.
But not for long.
