After receiving it, the Root ninja coldly replied, "Lord Danzo is not here. I will convey this summons once he returns."
The Anbu leader asked, "Where is he now?"
The Root ninja answered just as coldly, "We don't know. We would never presume to guess Lord Danzo's movements."
The Anbu leader said firmly, "This is the Hokage's command. We don't care—we must ensure Danzo meets with the Hokage right away!"
The Root ninja snapped back, "This is Root territory. The Anbu has no authority here to make any demands!"
The Anbu leader glanced at Kakashi. "Kakashi, use Genjutsu to control them!"
Instantly activating his Sharingan, Kakashi cast Genjutsu on one of the Root ninjas, who collapsed to the ground.
Another Root ninja lunged at Kakashi, but Kakashi swiftly drew his blade and drove it straight into the attacker's shoulder, bringing him down. The sword pierced through the shoulder, pinning the Root ninja to the ground, after which Kakashi applied Genjutsu to him.
"Kakashi!"
The Anbu leader and five other Anbu members stared wide-eyed in shock.
They hadn't expected Kakashi to actually draw blood.
This could easily escalate things.
Kakashi pulled his blade free, wiped the blood off against his sleeve, sheathed it, then said, "He attacked me first. I was only defending myself. In fact, I held back. Otherwise, I'd have slit his throat by now. They're both under my control—you can ask your questions."
The Anbu leader shot Kakashi a serious glance before crouching beside one of the Root ninjas trapped under his Genjutsu. "Where is Kinoto?" he asked.
Just as the Root ninja was about to answer, suddenly the entire base erupted in alarm bells.
Before Kakashi and the others, Danzo appeared—flanked by over ten Root ninjas.
The Anbu leader spoke gravely, "Lord Danzo, are you defying the Hokage's order?"
Danzo snorted coldly. "This is Root. Hiruzen's commands hold no weight here. In this place, my orders are the ultimate authority! Entering Root's domain without permission and harming one of our ninjas—don't think I'll let you off so easily."
Danzo's gaze shifted toward Kakashi.
The Sharingan currently in Danzo's possession had been collected for him by Chinya years ago.
Now, aside from those used for experiments, Danzo's Sharingan in his right eye had nearly gone completely blind.
It wasn't even the Mangekyo Sharingan—at most, it was just a common triple tomoe Sharingan.
