Gloria had no clue about any of this.

To avoid bumping into Amara, she waited a bit longer before heading to clean up the dining room.

There were other servants who could help, but Lila had sent them away, leaving just the two of them.

"Hey, Gloria, Ms. Jones wanted Crab Cakes earlier, so I made extra and saved some for you. Try them while they're still warm," Lila said, carefully bringing out the Crab Cakes she had hidden, using her body to block the doorway so Gloria could eat.

She remembered how much Gloria loved Crab Cakes. When Gloria was little, she would stop crying after just a few bites.

Gloria was stunned, looking at the Crab Cakes she hadn't had in so long, her nose tingling with emotion.

"Don't cry. If you like them, I'll make them for you every day," Lila said, gently touching her face.

Gloria sniffled and shook her head.

'I'm not crying. I'm just happy."

Lila frowned. Who said they were happy while crying?
