Chapter 39 - Chapter 66: A Tiring Day

Chapter 66: A Tiring Day

After spending some time, Natsuki Subaru arrived outside Ram's room and reached out to knock on the door.

"Senpai, the sun has already risen — time to get up!"

However, Subaru didn't hear any response.

He knocked again and called out a few times, but still no answer.

"Senpai, I'm coming in!"

Not wanting to wait any longer, Subaru said this and directly opened the door.

Stepping inside, he saw a room not much different from his own. After a quick glance around, he looked toward the bed, where there was a small lump on it.

Slowly approaching the bed, Subaru carefully looked at the bulging blanket. From the shape, it was obvious that Ram had completely hidden herself inside the covers.

Subaru gave the blanket a somewhat speechless look and called out:

"Senpai, it's time to get up. The sun really has risen already."

Still, there was no response.

However, Subaru clearly saw the blanket move slightly.

It seemed Ram was already awake but sealed herself inside the covers. In such situations, simply pulling back the blanket would liberate the person sealed inside.

With a mischievous smile on his face, Subaru reached out and grabbed the blanket.

"Get up!"

Shouting this, Subaru tried hard to pull off the blanket, but found that he couldn't pull it at all. Surprised, Subaru saw a head suddenly pop out from under the blanket.

"I'll kill you!"

Startled, Subaru quickly released his grip.

Looking at Ram's expression, his smile froze a bit.

How to say it — Ram's current expression and tone sounded very serious. If he wasn't careful, he could really get scared.

"Senpai, it's time to get up."

"No! Today, Ram belongs to the bed! Besides, Ram raised you so you could be lazy. Barusu, you get out right now, Ram needs to rest!"

"Huh?! That won't do! I think I'm still not mature enough, so I need senpai to continue teaching me. So, to make it easier for you to be lazy in the future, please get up quickly. After enduring a little longer, senpai can do whatever they want."

Saying this, Subaru smiled.

"No! Although what you say makes sense, you can have Rem teach you. Let Rem do the teaching today. Now go away!"

Hearing this, Subaru's expression stiffened. His attempt to trick her hadn't worked. After thinking for a moment, his expression suddenly turned sad.

"But... compared to Rem senpai teaching me, I still prefer Ram senpai to teach me."

Ram glanced at Subaru and then averted her gaze.

"Hmph, Barusu really is like a child — you can't do without Ram. Well, there's no choice then, Ram will properly teach you."

"Then senpai, I'll wait for you outside."

Saying this, Subaru stepped out of the room, and after the door closed behind him, a slight blush appeared on Ram's face but quickly disappeared.

Standing by the door, Subaru didn't wait long before hearing the door open. Turning around, he saw Ram standing there. But why was she wrapped in the blanket?

'Is it really that cold?' Though he didn't quite understand, Subaru didn't have the urge to ask.

"Barusu, get ready! Today Ram will properly teach you. Don't think that by saying those things, Ram will forgive you for the sin of separating me from the bed!"

Subaru's body shivered, his expression stiffened, and he began to regret waking Ram up.

But now that he had called her, there was no turning back. The consequences would definitely be deadly!

"Oh! I will definitely complete all the tasks senpai assigns!"

That was all he could say.

After eating the breakfast Rem prepared, Subaru started working under Ram's supervision. Then, Subaru experienced what hellish fatigue truly meant.

"Barusu! This place isn't clean yet! How can you call yourself Roswaal's servant like this!"

"I'll clean it again right away!"

"Barusu, now go fertilize the flowers!"

"Yes!"

"Barusu! I want tea."

"Okay! Coming right up!"

The demands kept getting more unreasonable, and Subaru could only regret his actions from the morning while doing his best to complete all the tasks given.

The morning passed this way, and by noon Subaru was collapsed on the kitchen table, utterly burnt out.

"Barusu, you still can't rest."

Hearing this, Subaru shed bitter tears.

"Senpai... can I rest for a bit...?"

Ram looked at Subaru's expression and smiled.

"Since Barusu says that, of course not. Now get up. Your next task is to clean the storeroom."

"...Understood..." Subaru responded and stood up, heading toward the storeroom, with Ram following behind him, smiling brightly.

The afternoon's work was also spent in exhaustion. When all the chores were finally done and night came, Subaru returned to his room and collapsed onto the bed, too tired to move.

"I'm exhausted... But I didn't see Puck today... and Emilia isn't eating in the living room either. Did something happen?"

After thinking it over, Subaru decided he was probably overthinking. If anything had happened, Puck would definitely have told him.

"I'll take a short nap, then look for Beatrice."

Deciding his next course of action, Subaru had just closed his eyes when he suddenly felt someone tugging at his face.

Opening his eyes, he saw Ram wrapped in a blanket, wearing a cold expression.

"You still can't rest, Barusu. We're going to study letters now."

Looking at Ram withdrawing her hand, Subaru showed a helpless smile.

"I understand..."

Just when he thought he could finally rest, Subaru couldn't relax and spent a long time learning letters under Ram's instruction.

Finally finishing writing the last character, Subaru glanced over at Ram, who was already asleep on the bed, curled up like a caterpillar.

But she looked like she was sleeping uncomfortably.

After spending the whole day with her, Subaru had come to understand Ram was very sensitive to the cold.

His own blanket was already in the library.

Subaru sighed and walked to the wardrobe, took out a spare blanket, returned to the bed, covered Ram, yawned, and turned off the light in the room.

Opening the door, he walked toward the library.

Upon arriving, he greeted Beatrice and, under her guidance, studied for about thirty minutes before the exhausted Subaru fell asleep.

Beatrice, noticing Subaru had already fallen asleep, sat beside him, covered them both with a blanket, took out a book she hadn't opened for several days, glanced at the blank pages, then threw the book aside and slowly closed her eyes.
