[Issei's Pov]

Man, I really screwed up the other day. I guess it was inevitable that Morisawa-san took one look at me when I got summoned and said "Next!" But then I spent the whole night just talking about Dragon Ball and didn't land the contract anyway.

...I mean, Morisawa-san and I really hit it off, but you can't exactly call that a success.

When he asked "So what are your special skills?" I couldn't give him an answer. Sure, I could get stronger with the Boosted Gear, but that's about it.

Lost in these thoughts, I was wandering around town on my day off. I'd just made a reservation for some "gentleman's discs" at this hidden gem of a store that stocks even the most niche stuff, when suddenly—

"Ow! That hurt! Why do I always trip over nothing?"

I heard that voice and looked over to see a flash of pure white panties.

The girl who'd fallen turned toward me.

Whoa! A blonde beauty in nun's robes! And I can still see her panties perfectly from between her legs! I should call this the "Blazer Shining Holy Light Concerto" or something! Ugh! It's almost too much for me—my eyes are practically burning!

"What are you even saying, partner?"

Ddraig's cutting commentary aside, I remembered there was actually a girl who'd fallen down in front of me and walked over.

"Hey! You okay?"

When I called out, she said "Yes, thank you so much" and took my outstretched hand. Getting to hold hands with such a gorgeous girl—today's turning out pretty great!

Just then a strong wind blew her veil away, and I caught it reflexively.

What appeared from under the veil was a blonde beauty with emerald green eyes! Looking at her again, she really was adorable! You could call her the ideal, no question!

I was staring in admiration when she said "Um..." Crap, I was still holding her veil.

"Oh, sorry! Here you go!"

"No, thank you so much!"

She put the veil back on—man, that's some serious luggage she's got there.

"That's quite a load. You traveling? Or moving?"

"Yes, actually I just arrived at this town's church today for my assignment—but I got lost, and since I'm still not used to speaking Japanese... I'm relieved to find someone I can actually talk with properly."

Right... to me it sounds like she's speaking Japanese, but that's not actually the case.

When you become a devil, you can speak languages from all over the world—limited to speech only—since you need to make contracts with all kinds of humans. Honestly, it's one of the powers I'm genuinely grateful for after becoming a devil.

"If you want, I could show you to the church? I'm free right now, and there's only one church in this town, so it's probably that one..."

"Really? Oh! Meeting such a kind person like this must be the Lord's guidance!"

She offered up a prayer—hmm, I don't think meeting a devil counts as the Lord's doing... but whatever.

On our way to the church, we passed a small park where I saw a little boy crying.

Looked like he'd fallen and scraped his knee—there was blood.

The sister rushed over to him. "Are you all right? Big boys shouldn't cry over something like this, you know?" She held out her palm, which glowed with a gentle green light, and placed it on his injury.

The wound healed completely before my eyes.

"Ddraig, was that just now..."

I spoke to Ddraig in my mind.

"Yeah, a Sacred Gear. Healing-type Sacred Gears are pretty rare, but it's perfect for a sister to have."

"True. We've only talked briefly, but I can tell this girl's kind and devout."

"Thank you, big sister!"

The boy ran off after saying that. She'd said she wasn't good with Japanese, but she seemed to understand "thank you" and waved happily at him.

We left the park and continued toward the church.

"You were surprised, weren't you?"

She asked me.

"I was surprised, yeah, but I thought it was a really gentle power."

"Yes, it's a wonderful gift from …God."

I couldn't bring myself to ask why she looked somewhat lonely when she said that.

When the church came into view a little ways outside town, I felt a chill run through my body.

"Um, is something wrong?"

Her question snapped me back to attention, and I quickly covered.

"Sorry, it's nothing. Anyway, that's this town's church over there."

I used to go there sometimes as a kid with a neighborhood boy, but stopped after he moved away... Now that I'm a devil, I definitely can't go anymore.

"Oh wonderful! That's such a relief. Um, I'd like to thank you properly—would you come to the church with me? I can't offer much besides tea, but..."

An invitation for tea from a blonde beauty! This is it, I have to go...

"You should stay away."

"Why, Ddraig?! It's an invitation from a gorgeous girl!"

"Have you already forgotten the chill you felt? That's a church—enemy territory for a devil like you. If you go in carelessly, you could be killed and no one would complain."

Right! Damn it, I have to give up?!

"Sorry, I actually just remembered something I need to do. Maybe I can take you up on that thank you another time?"

"Oh... I understand. Um! My name is Asia Argento. Please call me Asia!"

I turned down the tea invitation with internal tears, and though she looked a bit disappointed, her expression quickly brightened as she introduced herself.

"Got it. I'm Hyodo Issei—call me Issei. I'm heading back today, but let's meet up again sometime."

"Yes! Issei-san! Let's meet again!"

Asia kept waving until I disappeared from sight... She really is a good person.

I'd love to get to know her better, setting aside the whole devil thing...
