Chapter 100 - Chapter 101: The Dynamic Duo

Chapter 101: The Dynamic Duo

After saying goodbye to Mr. Leo, Basalt returned to his private training room. On the field, Bronzor, with the gravity machine still strapped to its back, was floating in mid-air, bobbing up and down. Compared to the morning, it looked much more stable; the bobbing was far less pronounced. It was a clear sign that it was adapting to the magnetic field. Basalt also noticed that it was occasionally moving forwards, backwards, and side to side, albeit slowly, like a trembling old man.

"Nice work, Bronzor. You can already move around?" Basalt said with a smile, walking over to give it a pat on the head.

In the games, when Gravity was used, a levitating Pokémon would simply fall to the ground. But in the real world, it was a contest between the Levitate ability and the Gravity move. If the Levitate ability was developed to a higher degree than the opponent's Gravity, the Pokémon wouldn't fall; it would just be affected. Like now, Bronzor's Levitate was strong enough to resist 1.2x gravity without falling. But moving freely was still a long way off. Still, it was a significant improvement.

"Bronz..." Bronzor managed a weak smile. It had been holding on for so long that it was mentally and physically exhausted.

Click!

Basalt switched off the gravity machine. The magnetic field instantly vanished, and Bronzor shot up more than a meter into the air.

"So this is the effect of a sudden shift in gravity," Basalt said, his eyes wide. A mere 0.2 difference in gravity had caused it to move more than a meter. The effect was dramatic. He could easily imagine how in a battle, a sudden shift in gravity would cause all long-range attacks to miss their mark.

"This Gravity move... has a lot of potential," he said, his eyes shining with excitement.

"Drilburr..." (`_´)

Behind him, Drilbur snorted. When an opponent used Gravity, it was a dirty, underhanded move. But when his own Bronzor used it, it had "a lot of potential." A textbook double standard.

"You should rest now, Bronzor," Basalt said with a smile, very pleased with its performance. Honest, talented, and hardworking. Not bad at all.

"Here, a reward for you. With this, you should be able to sense Ground-type energy in no time." Crouching down, Basalt took a sparkling, amber-colored gem from his backpack. He had already discussed it with Drilbur; they would split any gems they received equally. But with a bit of smooth talking, the "big brother" Drilbur had "willingly" given the first gem to Bronzor.

But to his surprise, Bronzor didn't seem particularly happy. Instead, it looked a little smug.

"Bronz..." ( ̄︶ ̄) Ground-type energy? Who says I can't sense it? I already can!

"What? You can already sense it?"

"Drilburr!" Σ(っ°Д°;)っ

Both Basalt and Drilbur were stunned. But you couldn't sense it this morning. How... so suddenly?

"Are you serious?" Basalt was skeptical.

"Bronz..." Bronzor looked proud. Fine, I'll show you.

Thud!

It dropped to the ground with a crisp, metallic sound. At the same time, a faint, almost imperceptible wave of energy pulsed out from its body. The sand on the ground stirred, as if blown by a gentle breeze, covering an area of... a few dozen centimeters.

"That's it?" (-_-)ゞ?

Basalt shot a questioning look at Drilbur. As a human, he couldn't sense elemental energy, but Drilbur could detect even the smallest fluctuation.

"Dril... burr..." Drilbur hesitated, then nodded. The energy was definitely Ground-type. It was so weak it was almost negligible, but it was there.

Basalt's mouth twitched. "Well, you two are quite the dynamic duo," he said sarcastically. The last time I saw a move this "powerful" was Drilbur's first Sandstorm.

But then he remembered that Bronzor had only just sensed the energy; it wasn't a fully formed move. He relaxed.

"Bronz..." Having successfully shown off, Bronzor was very happy. It had no idea what a "dynamic duo" was, but from his tone, it must have been a compliment.

"But how did you sense it?" Basalt asked, scratching his cheek. "This morning, you were focused on developing your Levitate and sensing the gravity field. I thought I was pushing you with a two-task training regimen. You've been doing three things at once?"

"Bronz... Bronzz..." With a smile, Bronzor began to recount its great achievement. As it had studied the gravity field, it had noticed that the field's radiation was very similar to the way Ground-type energy was transmitted. By attuning its own psychic frequency to that of the gravity field, it had been able to easily sense the Ground-type energy.

"What is it talking about? Drilbur, do you understand?" Basalt was completely lost. He could understand simple communication, but this talk of waves and magnetic fields was beyond him.

"Drilburr..." 「(°ヘ°) Drilbur scratched its head. It was Pokémon language, but it didn't understand a word either.

"Bronzor, you're amazing!" Basalt exclaimed, resorting to praise. If you can't understand it, just flatter it.

"But even if you can sense the energy, that's just the first step to mastering Bulldoze. It will still take a lot of work. But this Ground Gem should speed things up considerably," he said, handing the gem over. "Don't be shy. If it helps you get stronger, a single gem is a price I'm willing to pay."

"Bronz..." (T ^ T) The pure-hearted Bronzor was moved once again. Basalt is truly a wonderful person.

After a short rest and lunch, followed by a two-hour nap, they returned to the training grounds at 2:00 PM.

"Alright, you two," Basalt said, giving them a pre-training pep talk. "On Friday, we have the internal tier challenge. And next Monday morning is the group challenge. Time is short. Let's work hard and crush all our opponents!"

"Drilburr!" ('ω')

"Bronz!" ( ̄▽ ̄)

The two Pokémon exchanged a look and immediately threw themselves into their training. When it came to getting stronger, they were serious.
