Chapter 85 - Chapter 85

Ego looked at the two people who had suddenly appeared on his planet. At first, he had planned to simply absorb Clark and Diana—after all, that's how he had always dealt with those interstellar travelers who happened to stumble upon him.

But then he sensed divine power emanating from the woman. That made him change his plans.

Although there were many types of gods in this universe—the Asgardians, the Celestials, the Eternals, and even the mysterious Elders of the Universe—they all shared the same origin: divine power.

And Ego sensed that power within Diana—the power he had spent tens of thousands of years searching for.

Ego was born a Celestial, but ever since he had become self-aware, he had never met another of his kind. Not one. He had never encountered another Celestial.

Over his long life, Ego had come across countless intelligent species—but the more he encountered, the more disappointed he became. He deemed their levels of existence far too low—so low that he felt uncomfortable even interacting with them.

Eventually, Ego realized that this wasn't the life he wanted.

What he wanted was to remake the universe in his own image—to reshape every planet he visited into a reflection of himself, and to eliminate all life forms he considered unworthy.

Over the course of thousands of years, Ego left behind clones of himself on every planet he visited. His goal was to spread himself across the galaxy until every world became him.

But just as he was close to completing his grand plan, he was struck by a sobering realization: he simply didn't have the power to do it alone.

After running the numbers, Ego discovered that achieving his dream would require two Celestials of the same origin. Since he couldn't find another, he decided to create one himself.

No problem—he was nearly immortal. He could wait. He would father a child and wait for him to grow, and then, together, father and son would devour the universe.

That was the idea, at least. Reality, however, was far less kind.

Despite trying to breed with nearly every race in the universe, none of Ego's children ever inherited his Celestial genes.

In other words, all of his offspring were just ordinary beings—some maybe stronger than most, but none true Celestials. And Ego didn't know when, or if, he'd ever find a child who could carry on his legacy.

During this time, Ego began to consider the other divine races.

But the Eternals seemed to be extinct—just like him, only one male remained: Thanos.

The Asgardians were down to about five people, and two of them were women. One was Odin's wife, and the other was his daughter.

Ego was a little shy. He knew that if he married Odin's wife, he probably wouldn't live to regret it. Becoming Odin's son-in-law, on the other hand, didn't sound too bad.

But Odin's daughter, Hela, had been sealed away for thousands of years—how was he supposed to find her? As for the remaining two—Thor and Loki—Ego admitted he didn't mind same-sex relationships, but that wasn't going to give him offspring.

The other races—Celestials, Transcendent Gods—only existed in the ancient memories passed down to Ego. In reality, they seemed to have vanished.

Then, today, Diana appeared—and Ego's eyes lit up.

Looking at her, he saw a vision of the future: the universe bowing before him. If he could father a child with this divine woman, that child might finally inherit his Celestial genes.

"Ah?!" Clark, walking alongside Diana and scouting the area, suddenly sensed something coming from the distance—something fast approaching.

"What's wrong, Clark?" Diana noticed him freeze and followed his gaze, but she didn't see anything.

"Something's coming."

Clark saw it—it looked like an egg. A giant, white egg. At first glance, it seemed like a spaceship.

But Clark couldn't spot any typical ship components inside the shell.

Peering through the translucent surface, he saw only a middle-aged white man and a woman with antennae. Besides them, there were just a few sofas and tables—no cockpit, no displays, no controls.

That made Clark question whether this was really a spaceship at all.

Wait—white man?

Clark was puzzled. He knew these weren't Earthlings, but still—if an alien looked exactly like a Caucasian human, wasn't that a little embarrassing? Where were their alien features?

Regardless, those two were the only lifeforms Clark had detected on the entire planet. As they approached, Clark and Diana stopped walking and waited for them.

Soon, the egg-shaped spaceship traversed the vast distance and landed in front of them.

As it stopped, the white shell seemed to melt open, forming a doorway. The man and the woman Clark had seen stepped out.

"Clark, I sense divine power," Diana whispered to him as the two appeared.

"Supernatural energy?" Clark repeated, eyeing the newcomers closely.

Maybe because Clark didn't possess divine power himself, he didn't feel anything extraordinary. Looking at the middle-aged man, Clark didn't sense any danger—he didn't even look hostile.

"Is there something I can help you with?" Ego asked, his eyes fixed on Diana—the source of the divine power he had detected.

"And you are?" Clark asked.

"I'm Ego, the owner of this planet. Who are you two? And how did you get here?"

Ego was genuinely curious. His location wasn't on any known interstellar route, and they clearly hadn't arrived by spaceship.

So how had they shown up here?

"I'm Clark, and she's Diana. Wait—did you say this is your planet?" Clark's expression changed.

Not having seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Clark had no idea who Ego was. But still, despite this world being small, owning an entire planet? That was impressive. Clark suddenly wanted to be friends with this guy—whether Ego liked it or not.

Owning your own planet? That was Clark's ultimate dream in his past life.

In that past life as a nerd, one of Clark's favorite games was Minecraft—so he was now full of envy, admiration, and frustration.

"Mm," Ego replied, a bit smug as he saw Clark's jealous face.

"Alright. I want to know where we are. Due to an accident, we were suddenly transported here. Also... do you know about Earth?"

Clark had noticed that, oddly, many aliens—whether from DC or Marvel universes—seemed to know about Earth. So even though he didn't know if Ego did, it was worth asking.

"Earth? You two are from Earth?"
