Chapter 3 - the drive

"So, what did you mean when you said that you saw them?" asked Mark in morbid curiosity

"It happened when I was patching this little guy" said Marcy while pointing at the wolf cub

"that when I heard the screams it almost tricked me, but the cub somehow knows that it was not human and started barking at them which caused the things to let it guard down I guess at that moment I caught a glimpse of their appearance their slender appearance and pitch black eyes that stick out on the gray color skin that blends with the fog" answered Marcy in terror as she remembered their uncanny human like appearance

"I am sorry that you had to experience that" said mark in a caring tone, knowing how much of a mental toll that must be

"anyhow, what are we going to do after we reach the shelter" asked Marcy trying to change the subject

"Survive, that's our only option, but all that will come if we reach there first" said Mark in a serious tone

Alfred was running around the clinic, filled with anxiety, trying to find what he can take with him that will help them, from medical supplies and food while trying to wrap his mind around what is happening outside based on what Mark, Marcy, and Johnny tolled him on the radio

sound of knocking echoed in the clinic, startling the Alfred

"hello, are you open" yelled a young woman

"I will be there in a minute" replied Alfred

He saw a scared-looking woman in her 30s and a little girl about 10 years old next to her when he opened the clinic's door.

She entered fast and screamed, "close the door before the things get here"

Alfred closed the door fast, knowing that she was talking about the same things they have warned him about

"thank you, thank you so much, we would have been dead if you hadn't helped us" said the women sincerely with tears

"no problem, miss?" asked Alfred

"my name is Sara and my here daughter is Luna" said the woman after catching her breath

Alfred kneeled to the little girl height

"Luna like the moon, that's a beautiful name" said Alfred with a smile as he gave the little girl a lollipop

then he stood up and gestured with his head to Sara to follow him they stood about 7 feet (2.13 m) away from Luna

"you meet the monsters from the fog, didn't you?" asked Alfred with a serious tone

Sara nodded and said, "we wear heading out of town when we heard a scream for help that came from the strange fog that covered the forest, my husband got out and went to check if everything was alright and as sone as he got close to the fog it engulfed him I could hear his screams of confusion that instantly turned into those of terror I got scared and ran straight here because it was the closest thing around"

"oh god, I am very sorry that you had to experience that" said the Alfred in a caring tone

"it's all over now you are safe, I am waiting for my daughter and her friend to come then we will head to a shelter to hunker down in" said Alfred in reassurance

"You're a lifesaver" said Sara with tears

A scream for help cut the conversation short

"Sara baby help me" sound from the back of the clinic

Before he could react, Sara blitzed past him "baby stay put I am coming to help"

Alfred screamed at her "don't…" his words cut short as Sara existed the back door, then for a still second there was a loud silence

Then a loud bang and a scream that barely covered the sound of bones being snapped and flesh getting ripped

"Mommy?" Asked Luna with terror in her tear filled eyes.

Alfred moved fast knowing that Marcy and Mark must be a minute away he grabbed the supply bag he was packing and picked Luna up and dashed through the door not looking back

The sound of Luna crying echoed in the empty road

"not again it's the fifth time already" said Marcy in frustration

"That didn't come from the fog" said Mark while scanning the road

"There" pointed Mark at the sellout of a man

that must be them taught Alfred as he screamed "Marcy"

Marcy stop as soon as she realized who he was

"Dad what are you doing out here we told you to stay in the clinic, it's dangerous out here

"said Marcy in a worried tone

"No time" said Alfred in an urgent tone

"Who is this little girl" asked Mark while Marcy started driving

"Her name is Luna and her mom and dad encountered the thing from the fog" said Alfred with a sad experience as he held the crying girl trying to comfort her

"Oh" said Marcy and Mark in sync ass they understood what he meant

It happened too early, I am ready, but I would have prepared even better if I knew that it was this close Though Johnny to himself in a stressed expression, but his train of thought changed as he remembered that he didn't activate the electric fence.

As he got to the security panel, he saw on the security cam the fog coming to the back from the forest

"time to test my theory" said Johnny with a wide grin

as he intently looked at the cam, waiting for the fog to reach the fence

as the fog crossed the fence, he puled the lever and a loud electric arc appeared, and the fog dispersed, but right before Johnny could celebrate a loud rumble sound shook the entire air

"what the actual fuck was that" said Johnny as he tried to hold himself up

the radio cracked to life as Mark screamed, "Johnny, open the damn door now for the love of"

as the metal garage door opened, Johnny yelled, "come fast"

Marcy didn't think twice as she drove into the garage that seemed to close behind them as fast as it opened

as Mark, Marcy, and Alfred with Luna got out of the car, Johnny sped towered them and said in tears "I am so glad that you made it"

"we are glad too" said Mark teary-eyed
