I sighed and gently ran my fingers across the whip.
"We are strong, yes, but we aren't omnipotent," Lilith said calmly, her demeanor changed because of the upcoming danger. "My Mistress's whip is strong, but its true purpose is to be used against good people, not mindless monsters."
"Even your weapon is designed to be used against humans..." A lump stopped in Rusweld's throat. He was unable to finish his sentence.
The Corrupted Staff appeared in my hand, and I bared my teeth in a grin that promised pain. "Don't worry, Rusweld. The Pharaoh's dungeon was hard, but..."
My eyes flicked between Lilith and Rusweld with wild and sinister excitement. "WE WILL WIN, JUST LIKE ALWAYS~!" I screamed and started walking while laughing.
Rusweld swallowed the lump. Lilith put her hand on his shoulder, and his mouth hung open as if he wanted to say something.
"Aurora-sama is in the zone, don't disturb her, scum~" Lilith exclaimed with a grin as sultry as her low voice.
Rusweld got himself together and closed his eyes to calm down. "'The zone'? What even is that?" He asked, confused.
Lilith started walking, and he quickly followed her as she began speaking. "Aurora-sama is not aware of that herself, but I always knew it."
"I have noticed it way before I became her servant." She looked at me, the Aura from earlier still surrounding me. "When Aurora-sama gets excited, a hint of her true Corruption surfaces onto the world of living."
"The first time it happened was when we fought a massive Scarab in a dungeon on the first floor. She was acting like a wild beast, screaming in excitement and crushing my mind with her power without even trying."
"A-Are you saying that—" Rusweld raised his shaky hand, pointing at the dark fog which hugged me as if I were its mother.
"Yes." Lilith looked him in the eyes with an empty and excited expression on her face. "That is her Corruption~" "So please, don't disturb her, let her be happy for at least some time after being so weird lately..."
Rusweld stared at me in terror without saying a word. "I will need to split up with them as soon as the followers of the Goddess find out about her..." He gripped the hilt of his blades tightly as he slowly pulled them out of their sheaths. "We will all be killed!" He almost started crying in his mind, tho the awareness of a strong foe near kept him in check.
After a moment, we finally reached the end of the tunnel. I stepped into the blinding light first.
The room was enormous, formed out of ice, but the air wasn't even slightly cold. Enormous crystals were scattered all across the place, sticking out from the walls, ground, and ceiling.
"This place..." I muttered under my nose, gripping the staff tightly.
"Holy shit!" Rusweld yelled, walking into the room and taking a look around. "This place is amazing!"
"You utter fool! Don't do anything stupid!" Lilith ran after him, keeping him away from triggering some sort of hidden trap or other mechanism.
"Circular stands with many iron gates surrounding the ground..." My eyes narrowed as all the gates opened and my whip launched itself towards them.
I yanked my arm backward, catching them both with my arm. "You two! Don't fool around!" I swallowed nervously, unsure for the first time as I looked at the light-blue fog as it left the gates and flew to the middle. "It's an arena!"
"A frost coliseum!"
Lilith and Rusweld looked at me at the same moment, both serious and determined.
Rusweld jumped forward, pulling his blades out of their sheaths, his eyes widening as our enemy materialized in the middle of the arena.
He took a step back, his hands shaking. "W-What the hell is this?!"
Lilith looked at me with worry, trying to find at least some hope in me. "Aurora-sama... We should've stuck to the goblins for some time..."
The celestial-looking monster made of the purest crystals floated above the ground calmly. Its eyes were red and glowing, unlike the Pharaoh's. There were no signs of humanity in them.
My eye twitched in frustration. I was so proud and confident before, and now what? I couldn't move a muscle. I was afraid, hell knows why.
No, I knew why. It was because of Airi... She planted a seed of uncertainty that prevented me from fully believing in myself.
