Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Birth of an Omen

The night should have been ordinary.

In a village as small as Elderglen, there was rarely anything worth remembering after sunset. Farmers returned home after exhausting days in the fields, merchants closed their stalls, and children drifted into dreams while elders gathered around fading hearthfires. Life followed familiar, predictable, comforting rhythms.

Yet on this particular night, something felt different. The air itself seemed to know.

A strange stillness had settled over the village. No wind moved through the trees, no insects sang from the grasslands, and even the wolves that normally howled from distant forests remained silent. It was not the silence of peace, nor the silence of fear. It was the silence of anticipation—as though the world itself had paused to watch, to wait, to witness.

High above the village, countless stars stretched across the heavens. Among them, one star shone brighter than all the others: a solitary silver star whose radiance surpassed every constellation surrounding it. Silent, patient, and watching.

It was the same silver star that had appeared during the awakening of the Star Vault.

HEAVANIA REALM

The Hall of Origin remained illuminated by cosmic rivers flowing across marble floors older than civilizations. For days, the Fourteen Gods had monitored Elderglen Village without interruption. Every fluctuation of mana, every disturbance in fate, every ripple within reality—nothing escaped divine observation.

And yet... nothing happened.

That was precisely the problem.

Aurelion sat upon his throne, his golden eyes fixed upon the divine projection suspended before him. The image displayed Rowan Alteria's home—quiet, normal, and unremarkable. His expression darkened slightly.

"The silence is wrong."

The statement echoed through the chamber.

Valtor adjusted his spectacles. "The child has not yet been born."

"That is not what concerns me." Aurelion folded his arms, his gaze remaining fixed upon the projection. "Great events leave traces. Prophecies create disturbances. Fate creates resistance. Reality creates echoes." He slowly shook his head. "This birth leaves nothing."

The absence of signs had become far more troubling than signs themselves.

Across the chamber, Ilyra finally opened her eyes. The atmosphere shifted immediately as every god turned toward her. The Goddess of Time rarely interrupted her observations; when she did, it was never trivial.

Mordrak leaned forward, his massive frame shifting. "What did you see?"

For several moments, Ilyra remained silent—an unusual hesitation. Even more unusual was the subtle uncertainty visible in her eyes. Then she answered.

"I saw the birth."

The chamber became deathly quiet. Tharos frowned. "And?"

Ilyra inhaled slowly. "It wasn't normal."

No one smiled. No one laughed. The words themselves carried an ominous weight.

"Time stopped," she continued.

A strange stillness swept across the Hall of Origin. Valtor's fingers froze midway toward his glasses. Nyxara's eyes narrowed, and even Drakari stopped smiling. Everyone understood what that statement implied. Time manipulation existed—Ilyra herself governed the concept—but a mortal birth causing time itself to halt? That crossed beyond reason.

Valtor finally broke the silence. "How long?"

Ilyra's expression tightened. "I don't know."

This time, genuine shock appeared throughout the chamber. For perhaps the first time since creation, the Goddess of Time could not measure time.

MORTAL REALM – ELDERGLEN VILLAGE

Inside the Alteria household, Luna struggled through another contraction. Pain surged through her body as her hands tightened around the blankets, sweat glistening upon her forehead.

Nearby, Mira carefully monitored her condition. The elderly healer had delivered children for more than forty years. She had witnessed difficult births, complicated births, and dangerous births. Yet tonight felt entirely different.

Not because Luna was in danger—both mother and child remained miraculously healthy. The problem was everything else.

A nearby candle flickered violently before its flame vanished, only to return a moment later. Mira stared in disbelief. The phenomenon repeated itself again, and then again several minutes later. Her frown deepened as the room's temperature shifted unnaturally—warm one moment, ice-cold the next. Tiny particles of silver light occasionally drifted through the air before vanishing into nothingness.

Nothing behaved normally. Nothing made sense.

I've never seen anything like this, Mira thought, a chill creeping down her spine. The heavy sensation of being watched lingered in the room—not by a person, nor an animal, but by something far larger and immensely ancient.

Luna suddenly gasped as another contraction struck, and Mira immediately returned her attention to the mother. "You're doing well, Luna. Keep breathing."

Luna nodded weakly. Despite the agonizing pain, fierce determination shone in her eyes. She would endure, no matter what.

Outside, Rowan paced back and forth across the wooden porch, his boots creaking rhythmically against the floorboards. Every sound from inside made him tense; every passing minute felt longer than the last.

Eventually, he stopped. His gaze drifted up toward the heavens, where the silver star remained, watching in unmoving silence. For reasons he couldn't explain, the sight deeply unsettled him.

Everything will be fine, he repeated to himself, trying desperately to find comfort in the thought. Yet an undeniable feeling refused to leave him—a feeling that tonight would be remembered not only by him, nor only by Luna, but by history itself.

NORTHERN FOREST – STAR VAULT

Miles away within the wilderness stood the ancient structure. The Star Vault's silver stone stretched toward the heavens, covered in countless runes. Most remained dormant, sleeping and waiting.

Then a single rune illuminated, casting a soft silver glow from its center. Moments later, another awakened. Then another, and another, the process continuing steadily like ancient gears beginning to turn after thousands of years.

Silver energy flowed smoothly through channels carved across the Vault's surface. The surrounding forest reacted immediately: mana gathered unnaturally, birds abandoned nearby trees, and powerful beasts retreated deeper into the wilderness, warned by pure instinct that something monumental was approaching.

The Vault had sensed it. Not a prophecy, nor a god, but a birth—a single mortal birth. Yet the ancient structure responded as though reality itself had shifted.

While Elderglen prepared for the arrival of the child, the disturbance spread far beyond the Mortal Realm. Far below the surface world, and far beneath even the Hell Realm, ancient powers stirred.

HELLARU REALM

Darkness stretched endlessly across Hellaru. Mountains of black stone towered beneath crimson skies, ancient fortresses stood silent, and forgotten prisons remained sealed.

Yet throughout the realm, a strange sensation spread: expectation. Entities sleeping for centuries opened their eyes; creatures buried beneath ancient seals stirred within their confinement. Something had changed—something impossible.

Within his colossal fortress, Malgor slowly rose from his throne. The God of Ambition walked toward an enormous balcony overlooking the realm, his gaze piercing through dimensions—past the Hell Realm, past the Mortal Realm, directly toward a small village, a single home, and a child yet to be born.

A smile appeared on his face—not mocking or cruel, but deeply intrigued.

"Grow well," his voice echoed softly into the abyss. "The world is about to become far more entertaining."

MORTAL REALM – ELDERGLEN VILLAGE

Hours passed and the night deepened as Luna's labor intensified. The unusual phenomena grew more frequent: candles extinguished and reignited, ambient mana drifted through the room, and tiny motes of silver light flickered before fading away. Even Mira could no longer ignore the unnatural atmosphere.

Then, a subtle pressure spread throughout the village—almost impossible to notice, yet felt by every living creature. Dogs stopped barking, birds ceased moving, and even the wind vanished completely.

Outside, Rowan slowly lifted his head as a strange sound echoed through existence.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

His eyes widened. The sound seemed distant and impossibly close at the same time, like a clock buried beneath reality itself. Across Nethania, countless beings heard it—dragons sleeping beneath mountains, ancient spirits hidden within primeval forests, and the Fourteen Gods themselves.

The rhythm continued—steady, relentless, the sound of fate advancing toward a predetermined moment.

Then... it stopped.

The silence that followed felt heavier than mountains. And suddenly—

Time froze.

The stars halted in their tracks, the rivers stopped flowing, and the winds vanished. Reality became entirely motionless.

HEAVANIA REALM

The impossible had happened. Every god stood frozen—not physically, but conceptually. Even Ilyra felt the terrifying sensation: time had stopped. Not through her authority, nor through her power. Something else had taken control—something far greater, something infinitely older.

Only their awareness remained active. Shock spread throughout the Hall of Origin, for the first time in creation, the Goddess of Time was completely powerless before time itself.

MORTAL REALM – ALTERIA HOUSEHOLD

Within the frozen world, a golden light appeared—soft, gentle, and warm. It emerged from Luna's stomach and slowly rose into the air, brightening the room not with mana nor divine energy, but with something no god could recognize.

The golden radiance expanded steadily until it filled the entire room, reality trembling around it. Then the light began gathering together, condensing and taking shape until a humanoid figure appeared—tall, ancient, and beyond mortal comprehension. Whenever one tried to focus upon its features, reality itself seemed to blur, as though existence rejected the act of understanding it.

The figure looked toward Luna, then Rowan, and finally... the unborn child. A warm smile appeared—not the smile of a conqueror or ruler, but the smile of someone witnessing a long-awaited reunion.

Slowly, the figure extended one hand and touched a single finger to Luna's stomach.

The reaction was immediate. Countless golden symbols materialized throughout the room—ancient, unknown symbols that predated every language in existence. One symbol entered the child, then another, then hundreds, then thousands, each disappearing into the unborn infant.

The mysterious figure watched silently before finally speaking. A simple sentence, yet the words echoed across all Five Realms, across every layer of existence, and across every soul capable of hearing:

"Walk your own path."

The moment those words ended—the figure vanished. The symbols vanished. The golden light vanished. Everything disappeared as though none of it had ever existed.

Time resumed.

The rivers flowed once more, the stars moved, the wind returned, and reality restarted. For several seconds, even the gods remained stunned, because every single one of them had heard the voice—and not one recognized it.

Back inside the room, a newborn's cry shattered the silence—loud, healthy, and vibrantly alive.

Relief flooded Mira's face instantly, a breathless laugh escaping her lips. "It's a boy!"

The words felt strangely ordinary after everything that had happened, yet perhaps that was what made them beautiful. A boy. Just a boy.

Luna smiled through exhausted tears as Mira carefully wrapped the infant and placed him in his mother's arms. For the first time, mother and son met.

The child slowly opened his eyes—hazel-brown, calm, and curious.

At that exact moment, the Star Vault erupted with silver light. Across the Heaven Realm, stars brightened; across Hellaru, ancient seals trembled; throughout the Mortal Realm, sleeping dragons opened their eyes. The Fourteen Gods felt reality shift—subtle, yet undeniable.

The prophecy had taken its first breath.

Luna looked down at her son. "What should we call him?"

Rowan stepped inside and stared quietly. For a brief moment, all the impossible events faded away—no prophecies, no gods, no cosmic mysteries. Only a father meeting his son.

A name came to him naturally. "Kael."

The infant blinked, almost as though acknowledging the choice.

Luna smiled warmly. "Kael."

The name felt right, comfortable, and perfect. Neither parent knew that one day the name Kael Alteria would shake kingdoms, challenge gods, awaken ancient powers, and echo throughout all Five Realms.

For now, however... he was simply their son—a newborn child sleeping peacefully in his mother's arms.

And somewhere beyond the stars, unseen eyes watched with quiet satisfaction.

The first piece had entered the board. The game had finally begun.
