"You're nobody," Ethan spits, his face flushed with humiliation. "You can't own this place. Do you have any idea how much Jackson Parker's entire restaurant chain sold for? Ten million dollars. You don't have that kind of money."
The crowd murmurs at the figure. Several guests exchange glances, clearly wondering how a former courier could afford such an expensive acquisition.
I feel every eye in the restaurant on me. The weight of their doubt. Their skepticism.
"Ten million is a lot of money," someone whispers.
"Maybe he's lying," another voice suggests.
Chloe stares at me with confusion written across her face. Even she seems uncertain whether to believe my claim of ownership.
The doubt in the room feeds Ethan's confidence. His posture straightens as he senses the crowd's shift in mood.
"See?" he announces loudly. "Nobody believes you because it's impossible. You're a delivery driver pretending to be something you're not."
